My custom search engine...

I was looking via google's site and seeing what all they offer and decided to give their "create your own custom search engine" thing a go. I've been experimenting with it and developing the site and figured a good use for it using a domain name I registered some time ago to replace one of my old domains. So I decided to create my own custom search engine powered by them in two areas: money and health. I'm still developing it and there's a lot to do as far as content goes.

You can check it out by going to Z e e m g o [dot] com or just clicking here.

Like I said it's got a heap of work that needs to be done; so it's nowhere near complete. I look at this Google feature/tool as like a directory. The only difference is it's just managed and designed differently into a full website rather than just a directory. Know what I mean.

Well, that's it for now. :)

Thank you for your reply. :)

    pj1s:
Thanks. To answer your question: I still need to see about the custom part of the code that Google offers; what exactly makes it custom or if I have to do something with it to make it custom besides just slapping it on the site. As of right now it just seems like a regular old search bar and nothing custom about it. So I'll probably get to reading some more on their site today in order to make it custom like it should be. Lately I've been working on the design and content. So I'll give that a break for today.

    riotz:
Thank you, too. I think it's a good idea for anyone who has some resourceful information in particular area(s) to create their own custom search engine in those fields. It would definitely beat having to go to general search engines that pull up everything under the sun. hehe. Like I'd rather go to a custom search engine specific to webmaster stuff than I would having to go to general search engines like Yahoo, Google and so on to find the information. And it could even get even more specific under the webmaster topic rather a general custom search engine everything about webmaster. Like for example a custom search engine for PHP, everything about PHP that you'd like to find on the internet. Just ideas I hope someone develops in different areas. Until then I search forums, which is the closest thing to a custom search engine -- not really but you get the drift. hehe.

    fabriciogr:
Thanks. I'm using google's custom search engine thing. Found here:
    http://www.google.com/coop/cse/

    Batista:
    Hey thanks. :)

Well don't forget to open an mail account there. It's free. :)

Did anyone notice the blinking eye? I have it done on some pages but not all; sometimes in the logo and sometimes elsewhere. ;) I may start "partnering" up with other sites for certain areas of my website. Like I need to completely redo the games section. If I can find someone who has an arcade site in a style I like then that would be great.

I was going to go with their Google Apps, offering docs, email, startpage, calendar and so on but didn't like how I couldn't really make it fit my style. And I really don't like their email service. So I chunked the Google Apps from my site altogether after a bit of frustration. I've also started on an instant messenger for the site. So we'll see how that turns out. Just a lot of work in the making for this site; the most work out of all the sites I own.

I'm also thinking to implement offering people who open an email account an incentive simply to satisfy an old desire of mine that's still fresh. But probably won't be able to do that until I get the word out that the site exists. Right now the only people that know is this forum and one other site as of this very moment. Well that's it for now. Off to "work".

Your link does not work for me :-( - I just tried typing in the URL and am getting 'this page can not be displayed"

I also started a custom search engine a while back and I actually integrated it with free googles pages, you can see it here.

Seems like a damm cool site, with a lot of potential. If i could chip in an idea, i think a great thing to do would have alternative video channels, for example have youtubes most watched videos (for that day) on a playlist. Or something of the sort

    Anywho great site

P.s. For some reason the tiny url link didnt work so i had to type in in myself  maybe a tinyurl problem

Don't know why the tinyurl nor typing it in manually isn't working for you. Both work on my end. Try it again. I saw your site and interesting way to utilize Google Pages. :)

    georgecotton:
The tinyurl isn't working on your end either, eh? Hmm. Well glad you were still able to see the site by manually typing it in. Thanks for your comments and idea. I'd probably need to find videos targeted towards health and money since that's what the search engine I have is targeted towards. So that would be something to add in the "future" development of the site; playing the most viewed videos for the day in that particular subject, possibly. Sounds like a great idea. Well, thanks again. :)

I think it looks pretty darn cool.

I only see the one Adsense ad on the lower part of the page...are you planning on generating revenues from this using something in addition to adsense?

Nicely integrated, although I think it could use some work on design wise, nice start though man!

    Nice site!

I'm also working on a little search engine.
Please check it out if you have a minute.
I know mine is not nearly as nice as yours, but I'm still working on it... :)

Because using my own script I was able to add new functionalities like blog, news, forum, wiki, movie, music, download and adult searches. I couldn't think of anything else, so I'm no concentrating on improving the SERP ranking algo. At least you don't need to deal with all that using the Google script.

    Keep up the good work!
