get a good CPU cooler (read Zalman CMPS9700) and if possible a better cabinet (read Antec Nine Hundred)

old school! time for an upgrade son! :p

that might be normal for those back then

do you have a good heat sink/fan combo? do you have like 8 hard drives running on it that might be getting the case too warm?

Its high time you think of getting an alternative method for cooling your system. You must think of getting an extra cooling device otherwise who may have a tough time with your PC, in the long run.

That CPU tends to Overheat, AMD admitted it.
Either upgrade, or use a water cooling system.

Athlon XP works at high temp.. if it was Intel's it would have been fried long ago...

Your temperature is very low compared to mine.

Mine reached 95 C before while playing GTA San Andreas.

    ...and i have a laptop.

According to Everest Ultimate Edition 2007, i have a CPU Diode temperature of 77 C right now, i am not working hard either. My hard drive temperature is 51 C according to the same software.

The AMD duron processors used to run at higher temperatures. The athlon Xp series is fine. Check to ensure that the cpu cooler is seated properly. Make sure that the chassis has enough ventilation.

Thats normal for the old AMDs, just make sure you have the motherbaord setting to shutdown when it hits 80°C.

I still have one of those old machines running and during summer i need to take of the doors of the tower so there is enough ventilation to cool it.
