I'm using Avira for years now. They have a free version on the Internet. I must say its detection rate is high and notifies you right away the moment it detects something suspicious. I recommend Avira for an anti-virus. You can also use Malwarebytes.

I'd suggest if you have Comcast to download the free Norton they offer. If you don't have it I'd suggest AVG free edition

I would use a proper untivirus software that you pay for but you know it'll do the job and keep you protected in the long run. Symantec or Mcaffee are the most popular, I think they cost around $40 per year with free upgrades, antimalware and so on. Put yourself and your computer on the safe side.

Your best bet is to download a free AVG anti-virus. If you can't download it cause your PC is infected, then you must download the virus on a USB stick and then transfer the virus from your USB stick to your infected computer and then run it from the USB stick. You might have to install the FREE AVG sample on safemode, if possible. If this doesn't work, just restore your computer to a previous point in time where your computer did not have the virus. This always works. Make sure to save any work that may be important.
    Hope this helps!

I'm using a full version of AVG. Anything related to Windows is bad anti-virus protection. Also, McAfee definitely sucks! Don't get McAfee or your computer will be infected again.
