    Hi guys

I am tired by clearing Low Disk Space error again and again and some times I have 0 bytes in my C: drive. Then I remove some temporary files, etc to make 20-30 MB and keep browsing.

I managed around 250 MB disk space few days before but within a week this was gone. I don't understand which program is eating my disk space. Please let me know how to check this.

I have following programs installed at Windows XP operating system:

    Mozilla Firefox 3.6.18
Google Chrome (auto update don't know how to disable auto update)
    Avast Free 6.0.1203
    Microsoft Office
    And few other small utilities

Total size of C: 6 GB

    C:\windows > 3.15 GB
    C:\program files > 975 MB

    C:\documents and settings > 365 MB
    C:\documents and settings\admin\Local Settings > 307 MB files.
    local settings\Application Data > 306 MB files

    local settings\Application Data\google > 224 MB
    local settings\Application Data\google\chrome > 193 MB
    local settings\Application Data\google\chrome\application > 163 MB
    local settings\Application Data\google\chrome\user data > 30 MB
    local settings\Application Data\google\update > 31 MB

    local settings\Application Data\mozilla > 77 MB

Any application which can detect useless files and delete to free up space or how to find which program is eating space daily.

Have you got some sort of backup program automatically running which could be eating up your space?

Having said that 6GB of space on your hard drive is crazy low! Maybe time to invest in a new computer or hard drive.

Is your comp booting off of a thumbdrive  my USB drive the size of my thumb has six times more space than you do.

What you really need is an upgrade mang... maybe get rid of Chrome too (if you have Firefox, that's good enough for everything you may need).

Space Sniffer will tell you where the junk is. It's up to you to decide if you want to keep it or not.

    What the heck?
Do you seriously only have 6gb space on your computer?
I mean, when did you buy it, in the 90's?

Instead of worrying about megabytes, but a new harddrive with at least 100gb.
    It doesn't even cost much.

Shhh! I still have computers from the 80s/90s that work fine :D

Instead of throwing money and hardware at it, find and fix the problem.
If a drive can mysteriously fill up with unknown data, THAT is the problem - not the capacity of the drive.
If your car is leaking oil, the solution isn't to pour more oil into it.

That is a great analogy, I am guilty of buying a new computer because the old one is running slow. Although I always want the newest stuff out. :)

Dude, 25 mb here or 25 mb there.. A simple windows update can consist of hundreds of mb.
That's why I told him to get a bigger harddrive instead of being confused when he loses some megabytes.

If you use the internet on this machine then most probably the temporary files and downloaded stuff gets accumulated that may lead to this problem. But still with the size of the programs being used now a days the best op is to

get a new hard disk drive.

Thank you every one for posting comments.

To those who only advised to increased hard drive space I will say that is not the solution of this problem. Second I don't have 6 GB at my computer instead I have 60 GB drive but I created 6 partitions of 10GB each. Earlier I had 3 bootable partitions of 6GB-7GB each. The reason I have 3 bootable partitions is I use Internet 14-16 hours a day. Some times due to any virus, etc windows is corrupted and I can't wait for few hours to fix the problem or reinstall windows. Then simply I use ready to use other boot (logical) partition and do the work. :) This way I have 3 boot able partitions ready to use each time, if any partition fails I can use other instantly and then fix the problem later. What I did to get rid off this problem is I deleted 1 bootable logical partition and now kept 2 of 10GB each (earlier were 3 of 6gb-7gb each)

Other 40 GB is used to store data.

DATA partition = 10gb > I don't store data on c: drive that is some times formatted to install new o/s
Uninstall / Software partition = 10gbI use this partition to store most common used software downloaded from Internet or copied from CD, so this is my software library. Some one recommend CCleaner to remove junk, I download that software and used and now this software is part of my library at this partition forever.
Media partition = 10gb > This partition is covering all personal, kids, tours pictures, videos, etc

So man, my computer is not from 80s it is Acer Aspire laptop. ;)

Simply I get rid off this problem by adding 4gb into this partition and installing ccleaner that removes junk automatically each time computer is started.

Well, 60GB is still really low compared to nowadays computers.
My computer has 500GB + 1TB on an external harddrive.

You can't really install any big programs when you only have 20GB to play around with.
And by adding more disk space you don't have to worry about small things that happen
naturally as you use the computer.

Ohh yes, 500GB + 1 TB is not a big space/deal there is much more than this in the market. :)

Actually all depends on usage of computer. XP + MS-Office + Mozilla + Chrome + Anti Virus and simple browsing 10gb is enough until you don't install heavy graphics programs or videos.

Well 1500GB space is normal nowadays.
My old laptop that I got from school 5 years ago had more disk space than yours do.

But I suppose if you're only browsing the internet on it it should work ok.
I just thought it would save you time since you don't have to constantly
use CCcleaner and post threads on forums.
