My Blog Post is Being Copied and Google looks funny

Discussion in 'Google' started by ironmaiden, Dec 9, 2009.

Today morning when i searched Google with the blog post title i made last night to see is it indexed or not like "<Post Title>" and i saw that the first result returned was a blog which totally copied my post including images title and tags total copycat. And my blog homepage is returned after that not the post page. I checked the blog and saw it copies content heavily and posts many posts like that daily from various sources. It has no PR.

My question is that why Google is returning it first in the search result and not mine!!

I'm sorry I did not understand. But it is true that Google will make some funny mistakes from time to time.

It happens all the time, you can not expect google can distinguish which is earlier. Keep watching of this matter, and maybe after some days your post will be on the top.

You should consult that blogger and ask him to remove your content or use a snippet of your content and give backlink to you from there. If he don't agrees, you can complain to Google about it

It's some autoblogging script that made the exact copy of your post.
You can override it many ways like sending post summery to RSS and watermarking your images.

Though the copied post is ranking, but it'll be removed very soon.

Remove your RSS feed for a while. Also write something promoting your website or something related to copying yours and let it get sucked up by his RSS feed and posted on his site :)

This blog is automated, as digitech suggest u watermark ur img is a best way to some visitors and telling his visitors that u r the right person who write these contents, another way is to report google adsense but might be that will not work becoz the blog is automated.

automated blogs do not get much higher ranking and value in the eye of google. One day he will loss the rank.

Welcome to the Internet... Hope you enjoy your stay. Now sit back, relax, and allow us to insert objects into every orifice of your body! And please, learn to enjoy it. Resistance is futile.

That's some damn good auto blog software, just grabbed your RSS feed and went to town. Interesting.

The reason they "outrank" you is that they have been around longer, most likely. Not much you can really say to them about it. Google will not address anything human, so forget that. There are probably measures you can take to somehow destroy your own RSS feed, but that sounds counterproductive.

This sounds like a problem we will be hearing about from more than just "Ironmaiden" (love the name) as auto blogging RSS feeds becomes more popular.

My solution would be to somehow eliminate the RSS feed function of the main blog (I assume you are using Wordpress) and substituting it with a separate RSS page that you can block from people who are not subscribed via a password and admin permission. That may be the key right there... We need to design a plugin for Wordpress that only allows certain people access to the feed.

That is what is happening. They are auoblogging your RSS feed. At least that is what I think they are doing.

All this "watermarking" and other things really won't stop anything. People don't give a rats ass about that stuff. I think that collectively the solution is a protection device. The easy access to RSS feeds is the culprit and Wordpress is easily accessed.

Like I said, this is an issue we will be hearing more about as time goes on.

I found one plugin called "Members Only" They mentioned access to feeds by registered members. I suggest that if you are using Wordpress that you start thinking about searching the plugin database for one that will serve your purpose. If you were into writing them you could just create your own, but most of us don't have that kind of time.

Good luck to you Ironmaiden (I swear, what a cool forum name Ironmaiden Rocks!)

And I think I will be looking to your article submission service. I just need to write an article... I'll hit you back on that in a few days ;)

Yes they are doing it.. Shall i add a signature at the end of every post linking to my site, so that the link gets posted in that blog? But the concern is the originality of my content is lost...

@ BadBoyzStudioZ - can you please explain what shall i do with my rss feed to remove them from copying it?

You might want to add the link in the first paragraph as some scrapers only publish the first paragraph or two on the front page with a link to "more" and that's all a lot of eyes see. Something like "Today here at YOUR SITE LINK we will take a look at ...."
Doubt that will phase/stop them a bit but at least you'd get credit and a link to your site -- what the hell it might be worth trying. :)

They can take that signature right out.

Here is a quick and dirty idea... Insert your site name in your articles. Not as a link, because they can block the links in the autoblog software (trust me ;) )

Put something like.... " and here at blahblah.com we have found that homes ..."

(I just realized this is what filtalr just said. Well, you have two people saying it, so there you go. Sorry filtalr for repeating your suggestion)

Something like that. Make sure you personalize all your articles so there is no doubt who wrote them.

Just an idea. Remember though, the links can be eliminated very easily. Blend your signature into the article and they can't take it out. After awhile they might quit when they see all the references to your site.

If you read my post again Ironmaiden, I think you will see what I suggested on the RSS feed. (I edited and added to it).

If you are not worried about the RSS feed function you can eliminate it altogether, but I wouldn't go that route. Your RSS feed can be used for a lot of really good things.

Write your articles in that way, that there is no meaning of the articles if your website name is removed.
