My article marketing journal. What a load of...

So after mastering SEO, I wanted to try and do some article marketing.

I don't really get the point of it though, as you can just as well write the content for your own website and get traffic that way. Unless you write articles that relate to a specific sales page -- which can't really be SEO'd that well.

So it's been over a week now since I started. Over 30 articles submitted, 15 about completeseoguide.com and 15 about succeedajobinterview.com

18 of them are approved as of now.

I have a total of 800 article views, 150+ hits.

    And 0 sales.

I don't get it, how do you do it?

I write an informative article with my own expertise yada-yada, and in the resources section say something like "If you liked this, checkout this awesome ebook [link]" or something.

I'll continue on until I get at least 5 sales, so that I could do the math. This _is_ free traffic you know.

But I'm not sure if it's worth my time and effort, I'd much rather create another website and SEO it.

Well, in article marketing you have to go for long-tails and also create super-visitor-pulling resource boxes.

Looking at your current CTR, I wouldn't say that it's great. Try to make your resource box more interesting. Relate it to the articles, make it MUST-clickable.

Also keyword selection is very important. You want to get ranked for certain keywords to get some organic traffic, otherwise just writing articles for Ezine is kind of less productive.

I'm fairly new to affiliate marketing in general, and article marketing right now makes sense to me. I've dabbled with small content blogs, tried to SEO them, and had limited success. Right now article marketing is an excellent stepping stone towards making a full-blown, fully SEO'd content site. Doing extensive keyword research and developing genuine, yet pointed writing skills is essential for article marketing, and gives you good practice to work out the kinks for a major-league website so to speak. My goal with aff marketing is to have it entirely self funded. I know hosting and domains are cheap, but I'd like to make a few hundred bucks off this first ;)

To date I have 15 articles that are in EZA limbo (so frustrating). I've made one 32 dollar sale from posting them to searchwarp. I have 2 landers for those 15 articles.

Article marketing is also an excellent way to do keyword research. If your article pops pretty high on google, you know that keyword isn't gonna take too much love to have your .com website rank on page one ;)

I do agree with you though - Although I don't have a content site yet, I'm going to head in that direction very soon. Right now my articles link to a throwaway blog that simply has 1 page - a sales page. Might as well use those inbound links to pump up the ranking of my content page, as well as drive traffic to it and hopefully get some regular visitors and capture a few emails.

I don't believe they're new. Regardless of what their PR is, I get decent views from their page. Made one sale off the first run of 15 articles I posted.

Maybe you are going about it the wrong way. Also you don't have enough numbers to make a conclusion.

Article marketing is tricky and also a numbers game. Here are some points to note:

Place your keywords in the titles and make your titles long and stand out
eg. keywords "how to build muscle"
Title- How To Build Muscle- Here Is The Secret To Getting A Ripped Sexy Physique

    2. Write an informative article but do not give away too much info. You want to readers to be left in suspense after reading the article so that they can click on your resource link to get more info from you.

    3. Write a good resource box.
Instead of say "if you like this info yada yada yada", say something like
    Using my example keywords above
Resource- Did you know that there are secrets on how to build muscles without any form of steroids of hard supplements? Learn how you can get the body you desire in just a few months by following these simple secrets.-->Click Here!

    4. Write a lot of articles. You should be writing at least 3 artiles per day for your niche. Writing just a few articles wont give you the results you desire. You have to be consistent. The more the better and then you will start to see more sales coming in.

Hope those tips help you out.

150 hits - is that to the actual product sales pages? That's nowhere near enough to guage whether or not it's working. If you get no sales after another 150 then you should be asking questions.

Searchwarp has been around for a long time - Travis Sago used to recommend them I think when Bum Marketing first came out. After Ezinearticles and Goarticles they used to be the next most popular. I get a PR4 for Searchwarp?

IMO it's all about being able to target the right niches and use the right products. Just try out a lot products and a lot niches and you'll find a winnin combo

all the advice given above is great ...

you make a good point though that you could be writing for your own blog ...

so once your goal of 5 sales is acheived, i'd consider writing the majority of your posts for your blog and only spread a couple of them across the article directories ... because in the end you will have much more control over your content and ideally good SERPS for your site :)

Good luck to your experiment. For me articles don't work in bringing much sales. And i have more than 10 on EZA to make a conclusion...

Hi without sounding patronising before you started article marketing you should have had clear goals in mind before you started. I get the impression you did article market because you heard it was the right thing to do.

If your article marketing is done correctly it should drive laser targeted traffic to your website or the sales page.

Here is a good strategy, everytime you get an Ezine article approved copy the same article and change the resource box and include a link pointing back to the original Ezine article as well as a link to your website or the sales page, now submit that article to 10 of the next best article directories which include Go Articles, Article Dashboard etc. This will give the original Ezine article link juice and enable it to rank higher. Rinse and Repeat.

Just more than 10 articles is nothing to make a conclusion from. Persons who make thousand of dollars from article marketing have 1000s of articles spread out all over the internet.

Remember it is also a numbers game.

I am pro with article submission idea. You have to have some good content and then a nicely formatted resource box just like as powfada eaxplained

    Ok,

I'm about 2 weeks in. Over 2 articles live and running.

    Zero sales.

    Yikes.
