Way back when (3 months ago) I created Miosta.com. It's a general site about Cleveland Ohio, restaurants, bars, etc... My strategy was to create a new form of advertising, something that I had more control in from the normal affiliate marketing. The plan is going well, I already have a few advertisers and I am still waiting for all my pages to be listed in the main search engines. What my customers do is create their own advertisement flyer and upload it to my database, and instantly pay for it by credit card. Their ad is up and running in no time. I created a new website because I think other webmasters would like to take advantage of this. Right now I am creating new accounts/databases, everything, free for my first 50 customers until I have some ground to build on. I'm asking all users to visit my site adcreatepublish.com and come back with any ideas or criticism. If you would like to join and be one of my first customers I'd appreciate it!
This is a great marketing strategy. Did you do the site by yourself or did you use a software that handles the customer's payment and flyer uploads?
Sounds interesting, I wonder if the market is big enough to make it a worthwhile endeavour? It seems like locally focused sites are hard to promote and hard to get traffic to unless they become the "talk of the town". Keep us updated and thanks for the share!
