My adsense is under-peforming. Badly!

    Hello all,

I know there are like a billion guides out there, on how to improve adsense performance. But they are all like saying the same thing and sometimes they are wrong as well lol.
To get in to the point :

    I have a site which :

    - Has 800k + pageviews per month
    - 50% + comes from google search
    -30% direct traffic
    - Is NOT in english
    - The main site has 1 rectangle placed which has ecpm a bit lower than 0.50$
    - The forum has ecpm lower than 0.15$ with two ads placed, one on top under navigation and one inside the post.
    - Content is quite unique
    - Niche is gaming

I read about people have like crazy ecpm of 5$ and they feel it's too low.
So those of you who have experience from adsense, do you think I can increase my ecpm? Or is it normal? I am mostly concerned about the forum performance.

    :(

For a gaming niche, that's pretty normal.

Gaming sites favour rather low with Google Adsense. I've had a few and know this, and I've seen many others say the ecmp is very low within the gaming niche.

While my gaming site has the most visits, and can earn regularly, one of my other sites earns much better because it's a different niche. If you can, perhaps another website with a higher ecpm for adsense. Of course if it's about something you don't have an interest in but a high ecpm, it can be hard to keep content coming and promote it, when you're not interested and havent started earning the money. I guess if you stuck at it and then got the traffic/earnings, the interest would be the earnings because you know it can be achieved. But it's getting there. I could start a couple sites with a high ecmp that I have no interest in but, I know they'd be neglected. Fortunately my site which does get quite good ecmp, I have a genuine interest in it :).

Might as well you stop using Google Adsense, and start to sell ebooks. I think you can earn better.

ClickBank has gaming offers that you might try to promote, also get an Amazon seller account and put their ads on your site, they have a ton of gaming related stuff. Don't rely only on Adsense.

Adsense in forums is known for doing poorly. I'd just try to sell the advertising there directly.

Does the adverts match up with the content of your site?

Man, you beat me to it, "Is NOT in english"
    Thats problem #1.
Second is its a gaming niche and you'll see from others on this site that they have a very low ctr also.
I also think you should try other types of advertising, Google is not the whole pie.

Well that's something you;re going to have to work with then if you stick with adsense.

Encourage the use of tagging if the forum software supports it. Try better placement if you can as well.

yea most things have been said but to regurgitate a few that I find important.

    1. It's not english

    2. It's in the game niche (generally low paying)

    3. Part of it is a forum (from what I've heard also generally low paying)

I would follow the person who had the idea of trying to market an affiliate item from time to time. Whether it be a game guide or a game it's self.

    Best of luck

Something you can try is to add a lot of content from a high paying niche (try to make it still related to gaming in some distant way) and you can affect what ads are shown

I do use direct advertising as well, but that doesn't mean I don't want to take the max out of my adsense :)

So I guess sports is not a high paying niche as well? :p
