Hello DP members, I've been reading the DP adsence forum posts for sometime now and have only just decided to sign up. I've been using adsence for about 18 months and make a pretty decent living from it. I see so many of you eager to make more for your sites so I thought I would share a few tips that I've found useful. 1. Adjust your place advert placements, I see alot of you have very weak ad placements. Use the google heatmap to work out the best place for your ads. 2. As all of you know, unique content is key! Creating this content is very boring and can be tedious, why not create a site that encourages others to generate content for you, like a product review site. Or you could go down the route of a directory site. 3. Again you all know backlinks are vital but webmasters are less likely to link to you site if its full of adverts. Launch your sites without adverts on it, once you got the traffic come in, the turn on your adverts. 4. Be patient and work hard on your content. I know from experience how hard it is to get on with the job. I've sat at my computer for hours on end pushing myself to write content to get sites going without knowing if its going to be worth my while. Yes, it may not work this time but you won't know if you dont try! Finally, i know how you'll all probably want to know my niche and how much i earn but all i'm going to say is "my niches vary but think about products that the general public want" and my earns.... well it varys, best month this year $8.5k worst month this year $3k. Just shows you can never rely on a solid income, hence I havent given up my day job. Hope I've help a few of you and its nice to join a online community again. Juels
Well, maybe something to add...concentrating on ad blending helps as well. That one also plays an important role to improve the CTR.
My Adsense earnings have been consistent with my traffic levels for 5 years. Many of us have relied on our online business income for years, and yes many of us have given up our day jobs... =) If you are seeing big swings in your adsense earnings, it may be related to big swings in your traffic. There are things you can do to stabilize traffic. If I were to guess, I would say most of your traffic is organic, which may be why you see such big swings. If this is the case, try to break this dependency. Advertising, newsletters, building up a loyal community are all ways to balance out your traffic, and get a stable income that will free you from your day job... Unless of course you like going into work for someone else every day... ;-) PS - Most day jobs are not stable in this economy, even though they appear to be. Outsourcing, downsizing, layoffs... you name it... Very few folks have job stability.
Great tips and well written. My advice is to diversify your traffic sources. Don't rely too heavily on any one source.
Good tips. The best is to not monetize your site too fast. Generate traffic and solid content, then slowly begin to monetize it.
Good tips but bit of anti Google. The key is good content. If your site has really good content on the topic of the site, visitors will come back for sure. If you create your regular user base then you don't need to follow any search engine trend.
Thank you to everyone for your comments, Yes Sockmoney you guessed correctly 99% of my traffic come from search engines. To be honest I hadnt thought of other traffic sources, so thank you for the tips, will have to put them into action. Google Heat map just advises you where to place you adverts for the best click rate see link below: https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=17954
My favorite part - which means hard word, which is the real secret. More heat maps stuff here - http://www.vaughns-1-pagers.com/internet/google-heatmap-2.htm
True, hard work is the secret to success. However once you've put in the inital hard work you can sit back and watch the money roll in. Altho you probably wont want to sit back, you'll be so inspired to develop things further!
