Last night I was seting up some computers and decided it was time for him to make his first appearance on the web. He helped me setup a linux web server, then we registered a domain and got him going. I had him install everything, he added the posts, took the pictures, and everything else. Pretty amazing what these kids can do with a little bit of help and a few ideas. I put a link up on dig here: http://digg.com/tech_news/My_8_Year_Old_Son_Creates_a_Blog

    Here is his blog: http://www.jaredsblog.com

Awsome, that's about the age I started. Internet wasn't that big back then, they didn't have wordpress.

Get em started young. By the time he's ready to make money he'll have a nicely established domain :).

On a serious note what are your thoughts on his privacy and things he might say considering how many strange people there are about these days.

Man keep your 8 year old blogging no matter what... when he hits 13 years old his blog will be 5 years old and he could rank on google for whatever terms he could want! I started at the same age and thought blogging was gay, boy was I wrong!

Whenever I have a kid (about 7 years) I will teach them everything in the book and try to make them a better webmaster than I ever was.

My kids are both pretty amazing with computers (age 6 and 4), but I don't want them to spend too much time in front of a computer (2 hours per day is absolute maximum, normally les than an hour a day)...just because I want them to spend time playing with each other, playing outside, get fresh air etc...doing things that kids do rather than living virtual life.

I couldn't agree more. I give him a taste of this stuff whenever I can, but he's very active in sports, and other outdoor social activities. I don't want him to miss out on any of that. :)
