Thanks for the informative post. :)

It's not too long, if you want to make $$$, you need to put some effort into it. Reading a free post is one of the easiest things to do.

This month I made over $50.00, so I know I can make more if I keep learning.

    What books would you recommend?

I have a small blue circle with a slight bevel and 1px black border next to my ad units, they are completely generic and not in anyway an attempting to deceived users in anyway rather just try and get more users to actually read the ads. Now I'd like to keep this thread generally off this topic of "AdSense and Images" but I have had my design approved by the AdSense Optimization Team in the past, but I'll be seeking re-approval due to the "policy clarification", but from my interpretation of the recent "policy clarification" I should be fine because my image are and have always been unrelated to the ads and are in no way deceptive.

Here is the what I feel the major point of the policy clarification: http://adsense.blogspot.com/2006/12/ad-and-image-placement-policy.html

In terms of AdSense the one that I enjoyed and found fairly informative was Joel Comm's "The AdSense Code" which you can purchase off Amazon for around $16 I believe, it will give you some good optimization techniques and ideas, but isn't that informative when it comes to bringing in traffic to your well optimized site. That is the other side of the coin. As for what books are good for SEO - there are loads out there, but the one that consistently gets good reviews is Aaron Wall's SEO Book, but I can't speak for it personally but there would be many members here at DP that I'm sure would vouch for it.

LOL I'll put it on the long list of things to do.

No I haven't spent any money on marketing my sites really other than paying for a few links and directory submissions, but that negligible amount of money was spent months and months ago and isn't an ongoing expense of my sites.

Also just so everyone knows, I just started up a Goal Setting thread where people can post their AdSense goals for 2007. I mentioned in my original post that staying motivated and setting goals was a big part of my success - I'd highly recommend doing something similar.

Cool. I just ordered The AdSense Code last night, before even seeing this thread. Glad to hear it's a good read. :)

Burta, you have given me so much inspiration, and as my AdSense earnings appear to be taking off, I'll have someone to look up to. Thanks for sharing your story!

Great post Burta, well worth the read.

You mentioned the SEO Book by Aaron Wall, I just finished this a couple of weeks ago, my boss bought this for me but if I'd of paid double the amount for it I'd still be giving it a great big thumbs up, even if you're short of cash the blog Aaron runs is well worth visiting on a regular basis.

Anyhow back to the Adsense, I keep noticing the increasing number of bannings of Adsense publishers. Is there anything you've done to minimise the risk of this? (I know you can't 100% protect yourself)

The reason I ask is when my site goes live I'll be so paranoid about getting banned I'm going to the lengths that I won't even tell people I know the address of my site just to cut the risk of them 'doing me a favour', as I'm with Joel Comm on this one when he says you stand to make more from an honest campaign than trying to 'trick' Google.

Great Thread, I like to see these story's

    I just have some questions

    1) Could you tell us how much traffic you are getting to achieve these results

    2) Could you let us know when adsense team gets back to you about those " blue dots " next to your ads,

I would love to hear of they allow that :)

Once again congrats on your success

As a 'first timer' in the Adsense world I am hopefully about to break the $10 mark for December!!

I know, heady heights and all but it is my first month of ever using Adsense and the site has very little promotion at the moment.

I remember when this first happened to me last year (2005) and it was awesome. Being at school at the time I never needed a job to pay for things so had more time after school and weekends :D

This year though my site was still peaking untill October where it has gone DOWN about 90% in revenue while impressions are still rising. I don't even make enough to pay for servers at the moment so its all out of pocket till I can get it back up to a good revenue again :\

I will keep my site name secret but its quite a big file hoster ;)

Great post! Read everything and al your replies :)
One question regarding the articles. Do you only post your articles on your site, or do you submit them to article directories? Whats your advise on this? Thanks!
