Well I personally feel where possible you should try and keep articles on one page, I think it just is better for the article in the long run. If it is a good quality article that other websites or bloggers might be likely to link you'd much prefer they point all the links with a similar anchor text to the one page than have then point them to 3 or 4 different pages. Plus if you are writing an article on a particular niche topic you will normally find that only one or at most two of your pages will be listed in Google SERPs therefore spiltting an article in the hope of have more pages indexed is pretty pointless.

Now if you are wanting to split an article because you want to increase your Google earnings as a result of having more Google ads shown and hopefully in turn clicked then I can see that side of the argument, but I personally don't like to split my articles where possible. I definitely think articles less than 1000 words should be kept on the same page. I have many articles around the 1200 word range that are still on the single page - but at 1500 words I could understand if you did split it up, but I'd definitely only make it a two page article I wouldn't go as far to put it over three pages.

Yeah it has turned into quite a popular thread and actually does have quite a few inbound links - though I think the top 10 listing you are referring to isn't on Digital Point itself, but rather is a review of this thread by Yaro Starak - who is a young Brisbane entreprenuer.

The reason it ranks for the term "Digital Point Forums" is because he has tagged his review of this thread as relevant to "Digital Point Forums" and that review of this thread was obviously the last article he has tagged "Digital Point Forums". So that is why when you search "Digital Point Forums" in Google the review of this thread comes up 7th.

Thanks for the reply Burta, much appreciated. That was in honestly one of the main reasons for thinking about splitting up the articles (more exposure to ads), but also because they are getting quite long. Perhaps I just need to have a better look my text and see where it can be refined. The aim is still to produce quality articles and I am really enjoying creating them! :)

    Cheers,

Burta, do you still constantly search for new backlinks/request link exchanges or do you just concentrate on adding more content? Do you have many links for your sites or are you working on smaller niches that are easier to rank for?

Well done by the way and thanks for the info, great post.

Burta, thanks for the detailed information u have provided.

And especially the attached template design. I'm sure it will help many people.

I agree that keeping the designs of your Adsense pages simple and clean is very important.

I have mentioned it a couple of times in this thread - my URLs aren't relevant or needed - everything you need is in this thread - I even attacked a template of the design I use with my articles. I explained my step by step process to achieving good search engine rankings - you don't need my URLs.

    Good question!

Well when launching a new site I obviously do - but I haven't launched a new site in ages - I mainly focus on working on improving my current sites. That said I will probably be launching another one or two very soon that will be going out there to actively promote.

In regards to "constantly" searching for new links for my current main sites - not really. I mean if I create a new feature that I think is relevant and very linkable and other sites in the industry would be interested in linking to the site/feature I might actively go out there for a day or two trying to get people to link to the new section or setting up link exchanges etc - but for the large part no I don't actively go out there looking to build my inbound links.

That said my sites tend to get new links all the time anyway - obviously not from authority sites in the industry but they seem to pick up new links fairly frequently just from bloggers, small startup sites etc etc. Like I said in my original post I do a bit of initial link building and sometimes build links when I add a new feature that I think is very linkable - but for the large part I let my content earn their links just by being good content.

I think most things in life are much better when they are kept simple. A large part of the Web 2.0 movement seems to be based around keeping things clean and simple.

Yeah DP is generally a wonderful place - though at times you can get hassled a bit.

LOL it looks like this article is ranking well for a lot of things.

SEOing a blog is much the same as SEOing a site - search egines still using the same algorythms so what is good for a site's SEO is good for a blog's.

That is fine - but if you can give me credit by linking to www.cncventure.com I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

Burta is right, you don't need to know his URLs or niche. There are a few things about his niche(s) that will give you a little insight though (hope this doesn't step on your toes Burta - if it does let me know and I'll edit the post)..
    • His niches deal with topics that have "virtual goods" which people spend real dollars on. Thus there is a good commercial element to the Adsense ads that get shown on his sites (read: go where the money is! :))
    • His niches are in areas that can generate massive traffic due to the "geek" factor (read: go where the traffic is :))
    • His CTR is WAY above what you'd get on an "every-day" content-based site. This is because the ads are being written by geeks, for geeks. (read: try to get in a niche where the products/marketing is fully in-line with the audience)
