Thats great. I started when I was about that age. Easier to learn when you are younger

I think it's foolish to not let him. He's your son and he has a general curiosity for the work you do, why wouldn't you want him to get into the internet business just like his old man? I started marketing online when I was 16 and I wish I had started earlier because I'd be rich right now if that was the case.

I totally agree, it's more my wife that is kind of hesitant. Between my son and myself, I think we are getting her turned around though :)

He knows money doesn't come easy, up until now his only money has come from an allowance that my wife and I make him work his butt off for ;)

It will definitely give him good life lessons on working and time management, and if he does end up making money off of anything he has something to put down on a resume in the future.

That's exactly my thinking as well, by leading through experience I hope to show him how I've been able to build success online. This way, he can be the one to change my diaper when I'm retired and I'm 90 years old ;)

I sure changed enough of his :p

In all seriousness, again, great input everyone! I have my wife read your responses each night

Do you know what he wants to do to earn money? That may be something to consider before you make a decision.

I taught myself programming when I was 13. By the time I was 14, I was doing small freelance jobs online. It was a great experience, and I learned a lot during those years.

If he is showing an interest, definitely get him involved.

Your question of letting him make money online isn't exactly the way I would put it though. Even with you telling him exactly what to do, he probably won't make anything. That's not even an age issue. It's him having no skills to implement your ideas.

Guide him into running hobby sites for a couple years so he develops general webmastering experience. It would be best if the elements of those sites were as diverse as possible (articles, blogs, directories, etc...). Start out with a page generator (normally I wouldn't recommend this, but there is no pressure here). Slowly graduate to HTML/CSS, then Photoshop and finally PHP & MySQL.

Definitely let him, no harm in him being interested in something that makes money if he enjoys it. It could be a big help in what direction he decides to go in, or just to give him some financial awareness. Starting to make a little money is a great part of an education, might save him some bitter angry years in his 20's!

Just moderate what he's actually doing to make money so he doesn't get into adult or scam stuff!
