Excellent points all, my wife would like to thank you as well. He's got a pretty good head on his shoulders, so we're hoping that will help, (plus I am online full-time and will have him working in my office)

I'm not overly concerned about the social aspect because he's probably the most social kid I know lol, (although your point is well taken keen4kash, ty) He has too many other things in his life (school, soccer, BMX etc) to be sitting in front of the monitor at a dangerous level socially. Our thought is to help him get things setup and fairly automated, then let him see the rest of the method through.

Any other suggestions for methods based on his age range?

Thanks again for all your input!

If he is good a writing, he should do something related to content writing. He should also learn coding (if he hasn't already) and that can really help him in the long run.

You sounds like will I let my 14 year old son watch porn online?

There's no law that prevents 14 year old son earning money but what I would suggest is to ask him probably work at McDonald's or any job that is offline, not online as he's too young and still schooling.

If he's really keen into online business I would only allow him once he turns 18 years old.

Tape his eyes open ala A clockwork orange and make him read slashdot all day lol...

Sorry, its late here. I would suggest letting him hack around with photoshop or maybe a bit of html etc. Kids that age are a sponge. It would probably be pretty alarming how fast he can pick stuff up.

http://www.webmonkey.com/ is pretty low key in term of info and not too heady if I had to venture to guess.

    hope that helps,
    Nigel

Well my advice is DONT LET HIM

14 yrs is pretty young age and its the time for your son to concentrate more on studies. if you allow him to start making money, obviously you'll spoil his interest to study.

There is no age limit to earn money as long as the earner is interested in doing so in a legit way. But see that he is not exposed to the darker sides of the internet.

why you do want to shatter his innocence? This is the age to play with his fellow mates and also the time to have no responsibility.

Firstly ask him why he want to earn money ? how he is planning to earn online like what knowledge he have in particular industry, like is he good at coding or designing or he is looking for some setting up online business portal for selling stuffs or services ?
Before you allow him to get into online earning get it confirmed that he will not divert his attention from his studies, health and other social responsibilities.
    Hope this will help !!!

I'd like to see people STOP thinking about age for hell's sake. At 14 years I was programming... dude, wtf... innocence? Hah.

ontopic: Yes, you should let him.

He got to make money if he wants to buy something for himself? because I doubt you would want to spend your money on him everytime he wants something...

Also, if you start something at a young age when is older he becomes much more succsesful

The only thing about letting him make money at that age, you're going to have to accept whatever payments for him as he's under 18 and can't legally get a payment processor, merchant, or even a publisher account anywhere. This puts you liable for all his actions online. So it really comes down to trust I suppose.
