Is having multiple sites on one host accoune an issue as far as SEO?

I haven't seen any issues with that.

The linking between the sites can be dampened - I haven't performed any tests to conclude this however.

But from articles I have read and also reading studies by other people, they say that sites on the same IP C class can have the linking dampened.

Again don't ask me to prove this because I can't.

For the record. I use hundreds of different hosts - just in case.

It just seems a shame and a waste to have 1000 mb of storage on a host for a single 30-40 mb site.

Just be careful not doing excessive cross linking between the sites sharing same IP blocks and definitely don’t use dynamically generated sections that might appear the same to SEs in different sites, as that might trigger some “duplicate content” filter.

This advice is based mostly on speculation as nobody really knows how SEs rank or penalize sites, but I’ve had some rather unpleasant experiences with similar situations.

Also note the 'Affiliation' marker they give you (as explained in the papers SE pointed out) and all your sites from that one IP C class. As soon as G puts all of the sites under one hat, only one page (ok, max two) of all sites will rank for one word. With same IP crosslinking you can kill your own rankings. And it certainly wont boost your rankings.

Can someone please post the URL's of what they believe to be the most informative articles on this subject.

I used to be very paranoid about links from same class C IP's but have really loosened up on this in the past couple of months and have seen no damage ... yet

It is one of these here (Nohaber's site) http://www.seoguide.org/se-patents-papers.htm .

They Affiliation Technology is definitely being used. We used to have 4 sites on one IP, since moved one. Say site A separate and X, Y and Z on the other. A and X have been cought by the affiliation detection, A and Y & A and Z are treated as strangers between themselves by G.

I haven't seen any major negatives when hosting a site with the same host/same server.

Gosh this is all heavy stuff. Wasn't SEO all about stuffing keywords and creating link farms :D Ok, ok, lest I am reminded by our friendly neighbourhood "I am not an SEO," stuffing keywords and creating link farms AND PRESS RELEASES
    ;)

Thanks for posting the articles. I'm not sure how much of this is in the algorithm but it is good to feed my paranoia every once in while ... I was starting to get sloppy ;) Ordered new IP's and also a new server yesterday to make sure I keep things diversified!
