Just like anybody starting a new site I am trying to find ways to build traffic. My website is currently 8 months old and getting around 5,000 page views a day. Its a target I set for myself when i first started marketing my site and now my next goal is 10,000 page views a day. But I am finding it hard to get above 5000 a day. I am always adding back links writing blogs and working on my SEO but just can't get past it. So my question is this do we really have to wait until our site is a few years old before we start seeing the big traffic? I have tried a number of those traffic websites that take your money and send you dead traffic so their a waste of time. And I think I have tried just about everything else there is to do on the net in order to market your site. But if anyone has any tips please let me know! I'm currently going back to basics and marketing my site away from the computer...ie business cards, flyers, ads in magazines, newspapers e.t.c Any tips, please let me know...
I tried that...... but thanks for the reply. My site offers an affiliate program so if your interested you can invest some money in adwords. I pay 75% !!
you can try posting on forums related to your niche with your link in your sig, that could help get traffic.
Read this thread I posted about video marketing and youtube - http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1047869
i got the problem to I just got started and it's hard for me to get any traffic after 4 days i got my first 1000 but it's slowing down again!... i do need some advise because i don't really know how to work with getting traffic
5000 page views a day is not a bad start. Set your targets over 5 years and that number will jump dramatically.
John Chow's web site JohnChow.com is banned from Google and it's one of the biggest sites on the Technorati web site. Just get your name/brand name out there and people will find you.
Off-topic, but how is JohnChow.com banned from G. after it was lastly(while writing this) cached on 28th of Sept. - by Google??? As for the traffic try different promotion ways as well as keep some fresh & interesting content coming - not for the SE's but directly for your REAL VISITORS. My opinion is that adwords will cost you way too much/which of course depends on the particular niche/ and as far as offline advertising is concerned mmm, I do not have any good experience...neither heard of such, but maybe it once again depends on the niche and the market you aim... Good luck!
think about this.... you just posted on an internet message board catered to people that are just like you in that were all trying to better understand the same principles of web marketing. find niche websites, blogs, and forums related to your audience. build a pressence in these communities and you'll help build traffic to your site.
If your marketing your site correctly, then organic search should be less than 10% of your traffic visiting your site each day. You also have to play catch up since sites have been in position for years in some cases... and they won't be leaving those positions any time soon. Relying on a search engines free lunch won't get you much but a hungry stomach.....
Chow still got plenty of traffic when he was banned awhile back with Google. The bigs sites got big from advertising and word of mouth. They still continue to get good traffic. I mean, come on here, think...how else do you think they got so big? Along with signatures, and other half-ass noob methods, anyone would be a complete idiot to think that.
No matter how you size it up & slice the traffic cake, you'll eventually run into the same thing that has been preached for years when it comes to no budget, do-it-yourself marketing - "FREE IS FREE FOR A REASON". While Yes, you can get results utilizing free (Time vested) methods of marketing / adverting, however you must realize that 95% of free methods have a very slow growth rate. While I would love to think (Even after 3 years of researching internet marketing) that there was a sure fire (SUPER FAST) way to not only generate traffic, but also conversions, The fact of the matter remains that you get what you pay for (or don't pay for). If you are utilizing free methods make sure that you are engaged in at least 5 different steady campaigns (Min. 4 hours per day), Testing at least 1 new campaign every day (Min. 1 hour), & Utilizing any additional time to customer service & site updates. While this simple (Yet Obvious) formula works every time, it's still a slow building process with only you doing the footwork. Marketing (Like gambling) is a numbers game. You're always taking chances at long shot strategies to win that pot of gold. The more shots you are able to make, the better your chances are of winning the pot, maybe even small chunks of the pot at a time. This is where paid help comes into play. If you can afford to invest, do it. The more you hire = the more getting your name out there & speeding up the growth process. No matter how I size it up, x2 people (Or services) outputs more potential return than 1 person. I know I've basically just said what some consider common knowledge & still leaves you with the questions of, Ok, But what are the best free resources?, Ok, But what are cheap & cost effective resources with the highest return?, Ok, But what are all my options? Sadly what might work for one person, might not work for another. We each have to do our own research & testing within the lines of our target market niches & or collaborate with a firm that can do it for us. There are literally thousands of ways to market yourself (Free & paid) that can be found using search engines or purchasing an "Internet Marketing" guide from a reputable source. For me to just quote 1 & say it's the best would be a lie (Especially not knowing your business model or target markets), while it might be the best for me, it may not work at all for you. I hope that's at least a tad bit helpful. Good luck everyone!
If you can't get beyond 5000 visitors a day, you must a have a low retention rate. What are you doing to get return visitors? What are you offering that would make your users come back? If you have a genuine quality site that provides value to users, google should be the key to finding your site; your site should then sell itself and they should want to come back on their own. Work on your user retention, and a couple thousand visitors a day from google will eventually turn in a VERY large audience.
I agree with drbones as well. Let's not forget about the most important factor of being in business in the first place, (ROI) Return On Investment. As you already know, Link building, Content, image optimizing, on-page optimizing, etc... are the starting factors. Now lets forget about the search engines for a second since you've already optimized the site & focus on optimizing for viewers. One can sit in the #1 spot of google for a popular term generating 20,000 hits per day, but if the site itself has little interest to the visitor, no conversion takes place. With that in mind you also need to understand that after years & years of research, the average visitor will make a decision to continue viewing a site or leave within the first 3 seconds of landing on the page. This means that the landing page needs to capture interest immediately to achieve retention. Retention is the threshold for ROI. The longer you retain their interest, the more they start to trust you, & the more comfortable they become in the conversion process. This is where a stimulating design, complementing theme graphics/images, & "call to action" phrases come into play to complement the site content already drawing the traffic from your seo efforts. The main key is targeted traffic visiting, meaning the people coming to your landing page already want what you have to offer & aren't just random hits (Something you already achieved Via your organic seo efforts & strategically targeted marketing / advertising campaigns). A strategically targeted campaign makes all the difference in the world. I could go on & on, but I'm sure you get the idea & direction I'm going with this. Hope that helps, good luck!
Well the alternatives to search engine traffic are obviously link exchanges, banner exchanges, blog comments, etc. Focus your efforts on those kinds of things and you might have some more ongoing traffic.
Personally, I dont rely on search engines for anything. I generate my own free traffic. Search engine traffic can be good but I have never relied on it.
