This tips just for newbies so SEO experts don't laughed at me :)

    Here they are:

    1. Picking out keywords that work well is a very important process that you need to take seriously. Think of what you would type in or would imagine others would type in to find your website. These are the words you should be concentrating on.

    2. Make sure the keywords you use are up to date. Keyword trends can change, for instance if your customers become more familiar with the technical terms used to refer to the products you sell online. You should use Google AdWords regularly to get an idea of how search volumes are evolving for the keywords you use and invest in a quality visitor counter that gives you a detailed list of the keywords used by your visitors to find your content. This will give you a good idea of which keywords are the most used by your audience.

    3. Find out what the right keyword density is so that you don't get flagged by a search engine for being a spam page. If this happens then your ranking will suffer as a result.

    4. Quality is king. There's just no getting around that. In the old days, you could just optimize weak content with tricks that would get the search engines to notice it. That would get you to the top of the rankings and up your page views. Today it's not so easy, so your very first concern has to be creating or obtaining rich, resourceful, unique content that provides real value to your readers.

    5. Be sure to include some images on your site to catch the eye of visitors and give relief from plain text. select high quality images, not clip art. Don't overload your pages with text. No more than 500 words to a page is the general recommendation. Add a video is a plus too for your content.

    6. Create a website or blog that is easy to navigate. More pages will be indexed if they are easy to find by Search engine spiders. You can make their job easier by connecting all your pages through links. Site-wide links are the best way to build a strong basis for the structure of your website and get search engine spiders to index your main pages. You also need to use more individual links to connect related pages and optimize each page individually with secondary keywords if your topic does not really correspond to your main keywords.

    7. Linking plays an important part of search engine optimization. Linking to other sites, as well as having other sites link to you, can create a network that will drive users to the links and increase visibility to search engines. There are different tactics that you can use to exercise linking. Featuring a "link to us" section on your page, using giveaways to attract attention, and even guest writers can be used as legitimate linking tactics.

    8. Try to speak with other site owners to see if you can get them to link to your site if you link to theirs. Blog owners are good people to ask, and most websites will have a contact link on them that you can use. If you aren't able to swap links you could just ask to place an ad on the page if you pay them some of the money you make from it. Don't be afraid to ask others because networking is very important.

    9. Get a sitemap up on your website. This is a directory of every page on the site that you have. Think about it like a book index. Any time you add or remove a page you should be sure that this part of your site gets updated. The good thing about this kind of an add-on to your site is that when you need to submit your site to a search engine to index, this will be what you use. It allows their software to quickly index every page of your site. Also it can help users that can't seem to find something through your navigation.

    10. AuthorRank. This is very important because it adds to the credibility of your content. Content from well-known and well-trusted authors will have a higher level of author ranking than mass produced generic content. For this reason it is very important that any content you publish under your own name or business name be of the highest possible quality.

    11. Social signals. This is the number of times your content is shared on various social media sites, and it can add significantly to your search engine ratings. For this reason, it's very important that you establish yourself and your website on popular social media pages such as Twitter, Google+ and FaceBook.

    12. Choose web directories you want to be listed in. Link to .edu sites if possible and appropriate to your content. Build some backlinks by submitting your best articles to article directories like ezinearticles and also do Press Release backlink will also boost your search engine ranking.

    13. If you have a lot of people that are ahead of you it's important to look over their sites and see what they're doing that you are not. You never have to emulate someone completely and shouldn't at all really, but you do need to know what works.

    That's all folks :)

SEO of the past (even just a couple years ago) is much different than today. I think number 4 is currently the most important! Quality is what the search engines are looking for. Keywords should be natural and relevant to your website/blog. Keyword stuffing will actually negatively affect your blog. Those old techniques don't work anymore. This, too, is for newbies or those who are still stuck in trying to "game" the system. =)

I thought article directories were out now? I thought about a year ago Google lowered the importance of having articles on sites like ezines.

Keyword research is extremely important if you're doing affiliate or AdSense sites. If you're managing for clients you won't have a choice. And high pagerank links are STILL king. High quality content takes a far 2nd place, and it might not even be 2nd place.
