Must I 'decloak' to transfer a WhoisGuard domain?

I have a domain at NameCheap with WhoisGuard. Do I have to disable WhoisGuard in order to transfer to a different registrar? Otherwise the receiving registrar will copy my WhoisGuard info & email -which will no longer be valid. Is it necessary to 'decloak' when changing registrars?

I've personally handled numerous failed transfers because of exactly what you
described. Thus, it's "wise" to remove the WHOIS privacy to ensure the move
proceeds with little to no problems.

I thought so. In that case I'll renew at NameCheap instead of risking whois.sc visiting and archiving during a transfer.
