Hi, I am hoping to help newcomers in WordPress by listing some of my favourites plugins that I have used for my clients and my own websites, hope everyone can find something useful to them. 1. Contact Form 7 What is a website without a way for the public to contact you for any enquiries that they might have? Contact Form 7 can manage multiple contact forms, plus you can customize the form and the mail contents flexibly with simple markup. The form supports Ajax-powered submitting, CAPTCHA, Akismet spam filtering and so on. 2. NextGEN Gallery This is one of the best plugins available for managing and displaying images on the website. NextGEN Gallery is a full integrated Image Gallery plugin for WordPress with a slideshow option 3. TAC (Theme Authenticity Checker) Before you start to use any of the free themes that you can find on the internet, ensure that you run it with TAC. TAC scans all of your theme files for potentially malicious or unwanted code. 4. Social Media Widget Social Media is becoming the latest trend now. Harness the power of Social Media like Facebook, twitters, youtube, and it could bring you unexpected traffic to your website. 5. Shortcodes Ultimate With this plugin you can easily create buttons, boxes, different sliders and much, much more. Turn your free theme to premiun in just a few clicks. Using Shortcodes Ultimate you can quickly and easily retrieve many premium themes features and display it on your site. I will be adding more in the near future, hope this is useful. Chris.
Reserved for FAQs 1. Why am I unable to install plugin in my WordPress? Ensure that you are running on WordPress.com and not WordPress.org. WordPress.com is brought to you by some of the same folks who work on WordPress, the open source blogging software. WordPress.com is a hosting platform that utilizes the same WordPress software that anyone can download from WordPress.org. In another words, you are only able to install plugins on Wordpress.com and not Wordpress.org 2. How do I install plugins? - In your admin panel, on the left side bar, click on "Plugins"(It is between "Appearances" and "Users", you will not miss it). - Click "Add New", under the search bar, type in your desired and plugin. - Next, install the plugin and you are set.
I would say Total Widget Control on CodeCongo.com. It let's you style widget, place widgets on any pages, etc. Very similar in function to how Joomla handles modules.
I would recommend the following WP plugins for everyone: All in One SEO Pack Google XML Sitemaps GZippy WP-PageNavi
- Growmap Anti Spambot Plugin instead of Akesmet - WP-DBManager to back up your database - Yet Another Related Posts Plugin to help with crosslinking
You've got this completely backwards. You cannot install plugins in WordPress.com. You can, however, download and install Wordpress.org to your on web host and install whatever plugins you like...
Contact Form 7 messes up on me sometimes; the emails don't always go through. But the others are nice.
