I was wondering if anyone could help me with finding some completely necessary wordpress plug-ins that they use and recommend on their blogs.

    THanks

It differs as per you need. The popular plugins at the official WP repository is a good place to start. But then there are several alternatives to each plugin and you need to decide based on your needs. But dont overload your blog with plugins as that might affect the performance of the server and your website in the long run with too many queries.

I would suggest to have these plugins

    1. W3 Total Cache
    2. Akismet
    3. Google XML Sitemap
    4. Optimize DB
    5. WP Security Scan

You will surely be in good shape after having these plugins :)

I'd recommend the following plugins for Wordpress Self Hosted sites:

    1. 404-to-start - Send every 404 page not found error directly to start page (or any other page/site) to overcome problems with search engines

    2. Block Bad Queries (BBQ)

    3. Chap Secure Login

    4. FeedBurner FeedSmith

I wrote a blog post about this a little while ago: Essential WordPress Plugins

Since I wrote that, I'd probably substitute Super Cache for Hyper Cache. Don't think there's too much difference though.

I think it is also depends on what you are going to use your blog for. Askimet, Google Site XML site and All in one SEO are great plugins.
