I don't see how Mexicans are a threat to "America". After all, we hold many of the same values and have very similar opinions on most social and political issues. There are some differences, of course, but no more than there are between, say, English and Scottish (yes, they think there's an enormous gap of difference between them, but any outside observer can see they're very similar).
My argument is that Mexicans are good, hardworking people with superior family values and would be an asset to our country. Open up the borders to them. Not every law is a good law. Legalize immigration for all Mexicans rather than criminalizing them. I haven't read the book on leftist tricks, I'm not a leftist. If you aren't a bigot you need to work on your communication skills, because you come across as one. If the problem is simply poor communication skills, I apologize. "Reality denies your ignorance on the subject" -- Why thank you, what a nice compliment.
as evidenced by what? How amazingly successful a nation Mexico has been? the "quickness" in which they learn the english language? please, inform us as to what exactly you base this on? Just have an open border with Mexico? why have borders at all in that case? Why not allow mexico to vote in our elections and us in theirs? Isn't that what you mean? ...or poor comprehension skills by the reader.
Corruption is why. show me one level of mexico/the mexican govt that isn't corrupt. Show me where they cannot be bought and sold. mexico (especially) and latin America at large is a 3rd world. the United States is a first world (as is canada). I am going to assume you can pick out the differences on your own between living in canada and living in mexico.
mojo, you sound like you have only seen the criminals that have come up, which goes along with your job (or volenteer work) You are also in LA, which seems to have the most racists views that I have personally seen this side of richard butler or jesse jackson. I understand some of your views but other parts are extreme. Have you not seen how hard many mexicans work? Have you not seen their commitment to their families? I have Mexican friends, some are 2nd or 3rd generation, so they are legal citizens, and they would find you to be off base. Just because mexicos gov't is corrupt it doesn't mean all the people are. I am in favor of making it easier for them to come up to work, etc... and eliminate the 'need' for the honest ones to cross illegally.
Did I say there were no differences? No, I didn't. Are those differences in values, social outlook and political belief? No, they aren't. Corruption is not an innately Mexican, or LatinAmerican thing. It exists throughout the world and it exists in the US and Canada. Mexicans like corruption as much as people in the US and Canada, but they've been unable to come up with ways to control it in the same way that the US and Canada do; although one can argue that lobbyism, earmarking, and gerrymandering are disguised forms of corruption. That is not a fundamental difference between people from Mexico and the US, it's a difference between countries. Try again.
We see them all, good bad and ugly. This isn't an conviction of the legal immigrants either, but a resounding bell being rung about illegal immigration; key word is "Illegal". I think the thing that gets most Angelino's most is the whole spanish thing. I can say that more than once, I had to order at McDonalds in spanish cause the employee there spoke no english. My wifes employer, a legal immigrant from mexico, who happens to employ dozens of illegals offered to teach his employees english for free..actually, he offered to keep them on their hourly wages while they attend ESL classes at work, 1 hour everyday after their normal shift... no one attended. I can understand it being hard for those not directly in the line of fire to understand how it is here with the illegal problem, but it is substantial. So much so that California, the most populous state in the Union... is over half Mexican by birth. that is a substantial statement.
This is America, I have a right to my opinion. And to free speech. I gave enough evidence as far as I'm concerned, although I could give more. The success or failure of the Mexican government is not relevant to the value of an individual Mexican person who wants a better life for his family and is willing to work his ass off to get it. As an American I refuse to cast the first stone regarding anyone's "quickness" or lack of quickness to learn any other language. By the way "english" should be capitalized. Again, I already informed you of part of the reason I've come to these conclusions. You probably skipped that post, I used a lot of words. Do you need more? I could keep writing about this for days, but would you bother to read? Please stop repeating your questions. It's boring. No, I mean what I said. Allow Mexicans unlimited immigration. By the way "mexico" should be capitalized. I'm not the only one here who has gotten the impression that you are a bigot by reading what you write. *Normally I wouldn't point out the errors in your writing, but since you started out by slamming the ability of a Mexican to learn the English language it seemed relevant. Simple, change the law. It's a bad law. Wouldn't that make them Americans of Mexican descent?
Yes, this is something that I, as a Mexican emmigrée, can point out as a wrong attitude for any legal or illegal immigrant. You are in a new country now for better or worse, so to make the best of your situation you must adapt to that new country including learning the language and customs. Both will help you a lot to be successful. Yes, I know most of the illegal ones are looking for mere survival, but still.
I am still waiting for all the lefties who promised to move to Canada after Bush "stole the election" in 2000 to follow through. Rob Reiner, why are you still here? ;-)
No one is stepping on your freedom of speech or opinion. I simply asked you to reinforce it. And no, you've given no evidence so far (unless I missed a post in here somewhere???) Not relevant to the mexican peoples? I don't know about that... to me it says alot. If they can't clean up the cess pool that is mexico and latin america (et al), what benefit will they have here, to us aside from manual labor (which many say is the "new slavery")? As an American, I shall then. I wouldn't move to France, Germany, Japan or another non-english speaking nation and expect them to learn my language to accomodate me. Awww, getting pedantic with me eh? hooowww cuuutteeee! Can you possibly try though, just for me.. to say why it's "OK"??? and again I say, with unlimited immigration, what would be the point of having a border? so we can employ border police? I'm not concerned with what others think. I'd rather be right than popular.
English. That would be a good start for any immigrant, but trying to make that available and recommended would be considered racists by the PC police. We can't expect them to come here and learn English, wave the US flag and follow our laws, noooooo, they can speak there own language, stay segregated, wave their countries flag that they ran away from and we are to accept them as Americans (U.S. Americans for those who want to get picky) I hate seeing other flags waved when the march is for immigration, that tells me they want to go back to those countries and not be part of ours.
Yes MrMOJO, I do think you missed a post. It's my opinion that you are a bigot and that you enjoy it. Whether or not you'll admit it really doesn't matter, but there's no point in trying to debate a genius whose most common points are recycled ad nauseum. Please leave me alone now, you are far too smart and talented for the likes of me. Added: "what does achive mean?" -> My guess it that it's an obvious typo, he meant achieve.
Here we go again. Compostannie, I couldn't agree with you more, and Mojo, I couldn't agree with you less. In my industry, at least, these people have my unqualified support and respect. For another perspective, please see the discussion on: Fun with illegals thread.
uh, you came into my thread calling me a bigot, not vice versa. Wait, this is one of those "I'm a liberal victim" things isn't it? At least you realise that much.
