Greenwich is the location of the royal observatory. Sailors could calculate their longitude from the Greenwich meridian by having a clock set to GMT on board their ship. I'm wondering, What feat of mathematical, navigational brilliance with this mecca time give us?
"Muslim" and "Scientists" seem to be juxtaposed. Look at a world map produced in China, and it will show you that China is the centre of the world. Infact, the name for China in Chinese is ä¸æ–‡ (zhong wen) which literally means 'middle kingdom'. FTA: Not only is this geologist wrong culturally (England does not equal Britain), but he's wrong historically aswell because it was first used by British sailors, and then other sailors who used our ports and adopted thereafter. Nothing was imposed by force. Dolt.

Britain is made up of England, Wales and Scotland, so it wasn't just the English, but the Welsh and Scottish (he should've just said the British?). It was a blessing in disguise that the British Empire forcefully impose the Greenwich standard onto the world. At least it makes communications and business deals far easier with a common time standard.
The British didn't forcefully impose GMT. Ships which traded with our docks used GMT, that's how it spread. People seem to have the idea that we killed people if they didn't change their clocks ;]
Where can I find this good weed they are smoking? Ironic that they all face down, isn't it? People used to think that the Earth was the center of the Universe too... We've come a long way.
