Which method could I use to determine the best possible release date for my band's album?

Interesting question. While I certainly get some mixed responses about bit torrent, you should send it up the pipe and take donations if folks like it.

As far as timing goes. It stands to reason that it is a good idea for the release to correspond with a gig.

    hope that helps,

What kind of music is it ?
I write a Dance Music blog and get a crap load of press for new releases in Feb and March, surrounding the WMC (Winter Music Conference).
If there is a similar event for your music niche, I would try and tie it into that.

Otherwise, I notice a slow down in new artist releases in Nov, and Dec, however, established artist usually try and get something out before the holiday shopping season starts.

Spring and summer are always a good time to release music since people are more receptive to entertainment during those times.

Just stay way from dates with bad associations like Sept 11th, December 7th, and things like that. And try not release around any major artist, big budget marketing releases of a similar niche.

That's the best advice I can give.
