Do you find music distracting when trying to work? I do ok if it's music with no words...like jazz/cocktail piano, but anything else has me pulling my hair out if I'm coding...

    I can't work without music.

The type and volume of the songs depend on what I am doing.

Yes music is distracting even classical music can distract concentration and prevent you from focusing on the task in hand.

As for me it depends on the kind of work you're doing.
When I have to create something new or concentrate on writing some letter etc I have to be fully concentrated. And in such cases music distracts me a lot.
But when I'm doing some easy routine tasks music makes the process not so boring and sometimes it helps to deal with tasks even quicker.

If I'm in the writing mood, then it's 'space travel' music. If I'm coding or, (limited though my skills are) designing then it's chillout. For everything else it's chart music. I can research while watching cartoons. That's quite a handy skill to have :D

You should try using adventure and puzzle video game music when working/studying. It's designer to be a minimal distraction while helping in the making of decisions.

It also depends on the music you are listening to. Some music is distracting regardless of whatever you are working on.

Hmm for some reason, pop and party songs help me stay active. When you are on a 12 hour shift 5 times a week you need energy booster other than coffee :D

I can't work with certain music on. On occasion I go to a local coffee shop where they play classical music ALL THE TIME. Can't concentrate on my work. Generally, I like to work when my TV is on.

Yes, I agree. But it's so individual. For example my friend listens to hard rock while working, I can't even imagine how he manage to focus on work!
I tried to listen to classic but you know what, it distracts me even more than regular music. So you just should find what is appropriate for you.

Working with music is like my ritual, lol. I can't do anything without music. It's not distracting at all. Indeed, it makes me concentrate even more.
