Next step - Pelosi will make it illegal to run a blog or forum. After that, mandatory watching of Foxnews by everyone between ages 12 and 75. $300 fine for 1st violation, class B misdemeanor charges for repeat abusers - up to 6 months in jail.
We report, you decide, we jail you for wrong decision. Yes I know, sounds like utopia. Welcome to NAU.

Having more mainstream media controlled by fewer companies is never a good thing. I can definitely see the appeal in owning what the world considers the premiere business publication but Murdoch hasn't had a good track record so far of being too concerned about keeping business interests away from the job of reporting the news.

I think it was a very smart business move...people like Murdoch have to jump on the chance when they see it...if I had $5billion, i would have made an offer as well...business is business after all.

Its just in time for the launch of the new foxbusiness network as well, which is due out the end of this month I think.

Do Americans not mind being controlled by one company? Murdoch has control of what all Americans think. He controls practically everything in terms of media in the US. That is the reason people like GTech spring up.

Americans - WAKE UP!!! You are being brainwashed into supporting illegal wars on 'terror'

It's never a good thing when one person controls such a huge chunk of the media - whatever his views.

What kind of % does he own now in the US?

no one is forced to watch Foxnews....there are lots of options. However, poll after poll shows that the actual news is reported best by Fox. (I'm not referring to shows like O'reilly or hannity and colmes. They are not considered news). Poll after poll also shows that other companies such as MSNBC and CNN have a liberal biased. Fox actually has no biased, but when put next to news companies that do, Fox appears right wing. The fact is that Fox is closer to the middle than anyone else, which is why they are the most watched news service in the world. LIBERALS, WAKE UP!!! You and all your actions are seen for what they really are, which is that you support the extreme left.

btw...just one more thing...if the war on terror is illegal, what law was broken? For something to be illegal, a law has to be in place and then has to be broken. please provide sources.

Yeah, Murdoch is pretty much viewed as the Devil Incarnate in Britain as well. He owns The Sun (down-market tabloid), The Times and The Sunday Times (upmarket broadsheets) and the Sky satellite TV channels.

He's hated by the left because he was the first newspaper proprieter to take on the print unions.

One of the things I have tended to appreciate in the past, among my conservative friends, is that they had a certain strength of their convictions. I knew where they stood, they spoke plainly, and, from my more liberal stance, they knew where I stood. Such debate is honorable. The above pattern - which I'm sad to say I am seeing more and more - has zero substance to it and contributes nothing - does it?

To the matter at hand, my concern isn't ideological as much as it is structural. I think industry concentration is never a good thing in sourcing our information.

Excuse my dumbness, but Why exactly you find it sad that one businessman has acquired another business?

I don't find you dumb, web.

I have a problem with market consolidation generally. I think it is a market distortion, with negative effects that reach far beyond the immediate. But that is the topic of another thread. On the other hand, while I have a problem with consolidation in news sourcing, in particular, I think it would be suicide for Murdoch to interfere in the independent practice of the WSJ, a historically-embedded icon; so I revise my stance to a "wait and see."
