Hi! I´m looking for a easy and nice looking cms (written in php/mysql) where it´s possible to create and manage subsites. Exampel: # Mainsite # subsite 1 - assigned to another admin where he/she can create/manage own static pages like "About us". # subsite 2 (same as above) All the subsites are created with the same modules and themes like the main site, but it would be great if the subsites could have own templates. Wink I have testat drake cms, but that system has poor support and the templates/themes (1 included) is very basic.
Really..? Cause i haven´t found that "function" in Joomla but i know there is a hack for it. In drupal, i don´t know. Haven´t found it there either.
There is no built-in function in Joomla to support multisites, you can achieve that through an extension, there are a few options available: http://extensions.joomla.org/compon...arch/Itemid,35/searchword,multisite/cat_id,0/
Ok, thanks... Can you recommend one of them on that link? The most important thing, is that other users can manage the subsite on their own. We are a small organisation, and we want some of our members to be able to have a own subsite under our mainsite regarding the organisation. Like mainsitedomain.com/subsite.
I'm not using any of them, sorry. You may read what others have to say about each of those extensions on their details pages and then decide for yourself which one to use..
Although I prefer Joomla normally, I think I would suggest Drupal in this case. I believe it supports multisites straight out of the box.
Drupal does support multisites, i had this system set up once. Easily done with cpanel, was a bit of a hack with plesk
It's pretty easy to handle multisites with Postnuke and e107 as well. The latter in general being very easy. Have fun.
Drupal's multiple website ability looks good. Learn more here: http://drupal.org/node/43816 http://community.contractwebdevelopment.com/drupal-multisite-configurations-and-hosts Typo3 is made for multiple sites, but it's a monster to set up (plan a month to learn it): http://typo3.org/ WordPress MU is what I use (mu.wordpress.org). I also recommend the multi-site plugin: http://wpmudev.org/project/Multi-Site-Manager.
After having used WordPress MU for a while, I can confidently recommend against using it. I explained why in another discussion on this topic. Unfortunately, I don't have a better recommendation. Drupal might work, but the instructions to setup Drupal Multisite looked intimidating. e107 Multisite might also work, but since I haven't heard much about e107, I'm hesitant to spend the time to learn a new CMS only to be disappointed later.
Checkout a hot new alternative to Wordpress MU. WP-Hive allows the latest version of Wordpress to be used on multiple sites with only one installation of Wordpress. That is, WP-Hive allows the same Wordpress installation files to be used to run an infinite number of blogs. This is terrific for anyone with multiple Wordpress blogs.
Sorry for the late comment on this thread, but good suggestion on Wp-Hive. However it does not work across multiple Servers. Does anyone know of any other Manager that will manage multiple WordPress blogs across multiple servers? WpMU Wp Mass Installer Blog Matrix Pro Wp-Hive All seem to have some shortcoming or another....
