    Hey,

Sorry in advance I am a complete novice at this whole server thing. I have a question that may have been answered but, from what I have read I cant get it to work with my setup.

I have several website I build at a time. Right now I use one computer i can get setup with localhost and all that so it works, but if i go to another computer I have to set that all up again copy the files over and then got 2 different versions of the site.

I pulled out an old box from the closet, got it setup with windows 2000. I installed WAMP. What I want is this to be my dev server. so I can edit the files from any computer and view the dev site from anycomputer. right now I just use a share to edit the files which works fine. where i have trouble is figuring out how to view that website. I can also get the main page by typing in the ip address but how would i get it so i can maybe use local subdomains.

Any help is greatly appreciated. If you need more info please let me know.

    Thank you
    Derek

For a local/company network with a server - in my opinion - best option is to install some of the great numbers of Linux SERVER distributions. Then I would go for Apache (apache.org) as a web server. By installing webmin (webmin.com) you can manipulate the server from another computer through your browser. Very simple : you can set up and configure the server according to your needs.
Check the sites I provided, download a Linux server distro, you will have great support at their forums, and the online documentation is also helpful!
