Multiple websites or just only one??

    :eek: Hi everyone.

    I have a question about multiple websites. I created a website about half year ago about printers and printer supplies. And I am wondering to create my cartridge website with my own products. But my dilemma is from search engine point of view whether I should create a new website or incorporate the products to the already existing site?

    I mean would it be beneficiary to crosslink the two website or just make the info site with the products as big as I can?

    Since I named the site to www.1printer-supply.com I think it is not a good name for marketing. I think many people would forget either the 1or the dash from it.( it was solely for the spiders) So I would like to choose a new name, like “lowcostperpage.com”.
    But I can’t put a link from every page to the other new website because it would raise the read flag from the search engines. Right?

    Is it possible to create a new domain name and a sub domain name for it and permanently redirect the traffic from www.1printer-supply.com to the new sub domain??

    I am eager to hear and will appreciate any comments on this. Thank you Laszlo.
    :)

    @Laszlo:

    Since you already have established PageRank, you should probably keep your existing domain. From a brief review of your website, it appears that your revenue stream is from Google AdSense and affilite links.

    The only thing to consider is how a web surfer might discriminate against you when they see your URL in the SERPs. In that case, even with good search engine positioning you might see a low rate of clickthrough.

    While keywords in the domain are great, I try not to ever choose a domain on that basis. Branding is more important in that respect. Of course, your site is using static URLs that contain keywords, so sacrificing them in the domain would be an acceptable tradeoff.

    If you decide to set-up a new domain, just make sure you 301 redirect everything from the old site to the new (Are you using Apache?)

    Actually, the domain tradiing market might be a good spot to look for another domain that is targeted to your niche & has some history. Of course, you will have to pay a premium to obtain one.

    I think it is always good to get a second domain and at least put some minimal content on it.
    1. It grow into something you never imagined
    2. You may need it if something ever happened to your other site.
    3. You may be able to work a niche the other site cannot so easily cover.

    @Yellowberry:

    Are you hosting them all on the same 1-2 servers? What type of content are you pushing to them?

    I think I will sell my own products on the existing website and if I ever need a new site I might open one and cross link them.

    Thanks for everyone.:) :p
