Multiple websites/domains pointing to one website.

    Hello to you all,

If an owner of multiple domains set websites up on all these domain and changes the content a little but has them directed to their main website will Google class this as spam.

I have done a little research and this is meant to be classed as spam but there is one website owner that I have found (will remain private due to the fact that I do not set out to ruin anyones business) who has multiple first and second page rankings on Google for various phrases using different domains. When you check the websits out they look slightly different but they all end up at the same place by a 'click here' button.

Is this not just another version of doorway pages?

If this is OK then their competition has not got a hope as they take up most of the first page of Google using all the domains.

I would like your views on this subject please then maybe I will do an experiment to see if this can happen on another subject/business.

    Regards

It is not illegal but not recommended. Google advises against it since it is a duplicate content issue. Basically, if the site in question simply has several domains showing the same content, all domains might get banned. I learned this the hard way in April 2005 when my science forums got delisted (or rather sandboxed) for a month. Thankfully I realized what the problem was and started to use hard redirects on the other domains and after a month we reappeared in google. It took about 6 months to regain our high ranking positions though.

So if it's a site you are going to make money from, do NOT do this. If it's simply a couple of articles then you should be fine, but I would be very careful.

Would the websites get banned if each website had different content on but still was directed to the same domain?

This is not something that I personally use as you just do not experiment with a real business. It is just something that I spotted and thought that by doing this you could take control of the market in your specific business area.

Does anyone think that it is worth a trial test on a dummy business just to see if it works?

By having a homepage on each domain with different content and having the page links directed to the specific page on the main website. Would this work?

Well, what would be the purpose? This would only be good if each of the pages have a good pagerank and backlinks. Otherwise this sounds like a standard doorway scheme.

However, if the content on each site is *quality* content which is *useful* to the surfers, then it could work.

You are so right. I just wanted to know if having multiple websites on the first page of Google for the same search phrase was OK or not.

I have multiple websites on the same page for same phrase in Google, however, one is a main portal site and the other is a forum front page (ie, they are related). I don't think this is in any way violating anything. :)
