Hi, We are about to create a few websites that are similar in what they do, but are different in what they offer and talk about. Okay, that's confusing! It's like, they'll all be about 'fruit' and have similar structure but one will be specific to apples, one to bananas, one to pears, etc. With regards to SEO, we know that keywords in the URL is ranked high. So is it better to go with a new domain name for each fruit such as: www.apple-fruit.com www.banana-fruit.com www.pear-fruit.com ...or is it okay to go with subdomains like: apple.fruit.com banana.fruit.com pear.fruit.com Is there a difference? Are subdomains ranked lower than keywords in the main domain name? Is unique content more important on subdomain sites? Your thoughts are appreciated!
if you have a very good old domain then you can create subdomains on it and develop it. but newer domains takes more time and effort than subdomains i guess. Ultimately the Content and way of promoting it is very important
Would the domain name version rank higher than the subdomain one? That is, would our 'apple.fruit.com' be considered lower than if someone had www.apple-fruit.com? What are the advantages and disadvantages? Thanks!
i think it all depends on how you promote it and where you put the links .. and which links, the subdomain or the domain .. wordpress.com has a pr8 ( or 9 now maybe not sure .. ) but blogs under it have 5,6,7 ..
I think a bigger factor then keyword rich URL's is other websites are less inclined to link to subdomains like apples.fruit.com and alot of directories will flat out refuse your submission.
I was not aware of that. For starting out I guess it's best to do separate domains. We didn't want to get off on the wrong foot. Thanks.
