Hello Webmasters, Recently i came across a critical issue about one of our website. We have registered about 20 domains related to our website and that every domain was running with exact same content, images or you can say a duplicate copy of our original website. Now, since we found this issue, we have pointed and redirected all the domains to our original domain name. say for eg: example.net, example.org, example.biz etc all such domains are now pointing & redirecting to our original domain. Still Google shows multiple domains being ranked, it has even considered our IP address in Google SERP instead of a domain name. I am not aware of what issue this is called, but wanted to know the major effects of it on my website. Whether I'll experience a fall in my keyword rankings, reduction in traffic etc or an increased bounce rate. I have a couple of questions: How many days will Google take it to show only my original domain name. Whether i need to contact Google for this issue. Have any one of you faced the similar issue. I kindly request you all to help me get rid off this issue sooner than later. Thanks!
Hey Rakul, You need to make sure you're redirecting the other domains using 301 redirection. Then, on your (original domain) the one you want to show in the SERP's, create a .htaccess file and make sure to redirect every possible URL to the Domain name like for ex: none-www to www ip.address to domain domain.tld/index.ext to domain.ext If any of the other sites are still not redirected, add a canonical tag to the <head> area of its pages. You can also request a URL removal via Google Webmasters Tools, verify your other domains and request a url/folder removal. This actually happens real fast within 24-48 hours based on my experience. About timing, it depends on how long it takes GBot to crawl your sites and get the new updates crawled, as a matter of fact, the more popular your site is (backlinks wise) the more it will be crawled. Now about the expectation, duplicated content will get filtered and only one copy of your sites will be ranking in Google, the one with the best off-page ranking value. The rest will simply be removed, and you might experience a decreased ranking with that one domain to rank. Hope I was clear and helpful, good luck though.
