Is it possible for lots and lots of 301 redirects to have an effect on the destination domains' SERP? I've kept my eye on a site that does okay in the rankings and was doing a backlink check on it and noticed they have over 100 other domains 301ing to their "root" domain. Most of the domains are mispellings or word re-arrangements (e.g. "bluewigdets.com", "blue-widgets.com", "blue-widget.com" etc.). Is this entirely a traffic maneuver, or is there more reward to buying a couple hundred domains (some of them quite old) and 301 redirecting them to your "home" domain?
