Multiple keywords, same URL, same page?

I've wondered about this for a quite a while so I'm hoping someone has some insights into this!

If I'm trying to rank well for multiple keywords on the same page is it ok to link to the same URL on the same page multiple times?

    For example:

I have just written an article and I want to promote the page www.awesome.com/cool_link.html but I want this page to rank well for the keywords "awesome link", "cool link" and "really cool link".

Would it be beneficial to have all 3 links/keywords in the same article all linking to the same page?

Or would it be better to write 3 articles and have 3 anchor links?

I hope this isn't too confusing! Any help is much appreciated

    Timby,

I think you are talking about article marketing.mmm actually friend no one can give you a correct answer for that since we mmm may be I don't know about the PRs and relation between articles which you are talking about.

But Timby I vote you to write many articles instead of one because it creates many back-links while you can target several specified traffic streams to your site.

Hope this gave you a idea.

google only counts the first link on a particular page towards your site. Therefore, if you have three links from the same page pointing to your site with different anchor text, only the first link on the page will help your ranking. You will need links from different pages, or you can use different pages on your site ie mydomain.com/keyword-1 and mydomain.com/keyword-2 and link to them both from the same pages.

Any link even without relevant anchor text will count as a link for all three keywords. But it's better to have the anchor text for the keywords you're targeting, but like mentioned you'll only get credit for one link for the article, but for all 3 keywords (hows that for confusing :) ) So yeah if really want the anchor text then 3 seperate articles, but if it's from the same domain it will have diminishing returns.

Thanks for the replies guys, I didn't know it worked that way.

So would it be ok to link to 3 separate URLs on the same domain from the article?

What about 3 separate URLs from different domains, will they each get link juice or will it only be the first link?

    Thanks!

If you use multiple keywords, same URL, same page then it's not ok. Google may be somewhat confused to which page give the priority to rank that keyword. so, use 3 different url to target 3 different keywords.

I think there is no problem. Google will give equal importance to every keyword. Here you are getting link for every keyword you are targeting. Link is same, but targeted keyword is different. So, each keyword is getting a link value.

So those multiple URLs could actually be on the same domain, just with different keywords and perhaps that would give more link value to each?

Guess it's hard to get a definitive answer either way.

If you want to give priority on one page by multiple keywords, you can. But better way is 2nd.

One link whether it's anchor text or not will count as a link towards any keywords on the page. Anchor text will carry a little more weight for the link. People often link different URLs within the domain (homepage, inner pages).

If you had 200 links from the same domain their would be diminishing returns for each subsequent link so the last link wouldn't carry as much weight as the first. But 3 links from different domains (different IP addresses) is what you're shooting for.

    This is better option...
See, linking same page with diff. keyword from same article ( or from same page) will not help you, but it may reduces the value of each link.. hope you got it.
