Multiple hosts, one domain?

Discussion in 'Domain Names' started by MrHarper, Oct 2, 2009.

I'm useless with the whole DNS thing. Basically, I've purchased hosting and changed the nameservers of my domain, and everything is good. However, I want to purchase another hosting package and link it to ONE SUBDOMAIN of my domain, for example hostingaccount2.mydomain.com. Surely this is possible? I just cant find how to do it anywhere. Please help.

    My domain is on GoDaddy.

You could do that. But then you could also use the same hosting account and do the same thing. Do you want another hosting account for seo purposes?

I'm not sure I understand your question. I see no benefit to purchasing hosting to link to a subdomain.

Search Engines treat sub-domains as separate sites. You could create links much easier from other peoples site to get the same benefits.

You can also create subdomains from your existing account with almost any host.

If all you want to do is purchase a new domain:

    Blueberrycupcakes.com

    And then redirect it to:

    blueberrycupcakes.mysite.com

You can already do this directly in GoDaddy. It's called Domain Masking and very easy to do. Check out GoDaddy's help files or shoot their tech support and email.

Most people use domain masking as a simple way to redirect an affiliate offer.

    Hope this helps somehow.

Your hosting company provides option to create subdomain. Donot waste your money. It is possible on same hosting account.

It is possible if you have complete control on DNS servers. If you are on GoDaddy - you get domain forwarding for free.

    Thx

    Oh my god.
I KNOW I can create subdomains on my current hosting account.
I want a subdomain of my domain on a seperate host because it will be hosting content against the terms of service of my other host. I'm not wasting my money.

    Nevermind, I've done it now.

if u want ur subdomain to be on another web host, try not to use name server (NS) of the current domain. You can use Name servers given by Godaddy, then point the A records of main domain to the IP address of the current web hosting.

Then point your subdomain to the IP address of your another web hosting account.

If your domain registrar (Godaddy) does not provide DNS management, you can simply use DNS provided by free DNS hosting like everyDNS, then you can manage it from EveryDNS
