Multiple Good Sites, Can I Utilize to Help New Ones?

I have multiple good sites with some decent PR. My question is, how can I use these to help newer sites of mine take off? I've heard, don't like to other sites hosted on the same IP. Is this true? Do I not want to link to other sites on my Ip? Why not? How could a link from some of my better sites to a newer site actually hurt it?

Google counts "natural links" or what they perceive as "natural" links. Links (votes) for a site owned by the same person aren't unbiased or natural and google will assume common ownership of the sites if they are on the same IP (even if the whois is different or protected). There is nothing wrong in putting a link from one of your sites to another as long as it is done for traffic or makes sense (like related content) - just don't expect google to count it for helping your rankings.

Exactly. It's not that it will hurt you, it's just that it may be not that useful. Now, because of promos etc, I have hosting accounts with three different providers, I mean they are so cheap anyway, and I like to use them for exactly that: if I have two-three related - and related only - websites, I host them on different accounts. What I prefer is having three related websites, and doing three-way links without any reciprocal.

In any case, if your websites are related or have the same visitor profile, you can still have a few visitors to your new websites that way. It can helps in getting your website known.

Just interested in getting them ranked higher, the traffic on these sites is very highly targeted and quickly monetized. No sense in going after it from a traffic standpoint. I'm very upset with my current hosting company, maybe I'll have to look into a new one, and depending upon the cancellation policy of the host I'll end up with 2 anyways...

Just don't overdo it, most shared servers have 1000+ sites on them, so interlinking 3 of them doesn't look particularly unnatural, however, it 30% of sites on one ip are linking to the same site, then it looks unnatural, try to keep the links to related content if possible. Cheers!

I have a small web design agency and put a "designed by" link at the bottom of each enw site I do.

This has helped my main site. However, when - for a separate property business we have - I linked "New Less Important Property Site A" to "Main Property Site B", Site A and Site B got kicked to page 10 of the serps. "New Less Important Property Site C" - which was never interlinked - is still on p1.

So be wary - sometimes interlinking helps, other times it can invoke a penalty.

This is totally right. Quite honestly, some of my websites are on the same host with same IP, and the link juice seems to go through anyway. I think it may become problematic only if you are doing thousand of "portal page". I won't suggest getting a second host only for this, I ended up doing this because I had multiple hosts first ;)

On the other hand, I know that some host offers multiple IP hosting account exactly for that same reason. But that is for the big players!
