Multiple domains

It has been suggested that registering a domain for a longer time (2, 5 or even 10 years instead of 1) gives it more credability as far as G (and sandbox) is concerned. The reasoning being that someone willing to pay more is less likely to be a spammer and more likely to persist.

Could this be applied to buying multiple domains (similar like domain1.tld and domain-1.tld) and redirecting them to just one of them?

Is this a good strategy as far as sanbox is concerned? Is it a good strategy as far as ranking in general is concerned?

I usually only register sites initially for one or two years, and have yet to see this play a role in my rankings.
