Multiple domains pointing to one site...

    Hello...
I am soon going to launch a site (a big project of mine)

i have around 20 domains lined up which would point to this same site.
most of them are a different TLD of the same name.
but there are a few others too which are similar to my current domain.

    my question was...

i know a 301 redirect is the best solution.

but, do i do "add on domain" for all 20 of them in cpanel and then upload htaccess to all of them...

or, there is some other way of doing it too?

like, i know cpanel can redirect or 'park' or something like that.
also, even godaddy can redirect it for me...

so, i am a little confused.

if i decide to use htaccess for 301 redirect... then making a subdomain for all 20 of them and then uploading htaccess to all of them is the only good solution?

Can you please tell us atleast one good reason of having 20 domains and pointing to one site??

I strongly suggest not to play with 20 domains....put your site on one domain. And If you want to use all 20 domains then...Have your site on ONE domain and on remaining 19 domains have small and different sites.

they are not all different domains...
they are just the domains which i have secured so otheres cannot get them.

    its like this:
(example using 1st and 2nd word as my domain is made up of 2 words)

    www.1stword2ndword.com
    www.1stword2ndword.net
    www.1stword2ndword.org
    .
    .
    .
    www.1stword-2ndword.com
    www.1stword-2ndword.net
    www.1stword-2ndword.org
    .
    .
    .
    www.2stword-1ndword.com
    www.2stword-1ndword.net
    www.2stword-1ndword.org

As you see, i have taken up all possible combinations because i just cant afford to allow others to take them once the site is up.

    its like this...

    www.TemplateMonster.com
    www.MonsterTemplate.com
    www.Template-Monster.com
    www.Monster-Template.com
(not to forget there are .net,.org,.info and others too)

so, i think its not wrong to have them all. i'm just seeking the correct way of redirect them all to my one main domain which will be www.1stword2ndword.com

    thanks for help! :)

    Mate,

there is no wrong in having all 20 domains with combination. Why don't you park the rest 19 domains and run your site on one domain.

Frankly, you will not get such big benefit of redirect and all other things.

As I said, you can put some small site or 1-2 page on 19 domains and then Give a link on top to your main site.

    See this site-- http://www.mattcutts.com/

It have link to its working blog http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/. Why don't you do in same way?

If you decided to re-direct... then

Create separate folder for all 20 i.e create hosting directories for all. Have site on one and have ONE page on remaining 19 sites. Then use 301.

In this way... you'll have 20 different sites, but 19 are pointing to one. This will be the safest way I can guess.

Hi a7, I would do as Mr Kumar says. Or just park them with a reputable service.

I think Mr Kumar's idea of parking them with a parking service (like Fabulous, I'm not talking parking it on your main domain) is fine and he's right that you won't get much benefit from redirecting them, you're really just protecting yourself from others using the domains -- at least that's what it sounds like.

However, I wouldn't recommend creating 19 sites with a couple of pages on them with links back to your main site. It'd be pretty clear you built them strictly for links back, which the engines don't like, and unless you market/spend time on these 19 other sites they won't help you much either.

    Yeah, true..
it wont be good to make 19 sites with some home page.

and in any case.. i am not trying to get higher rank on google or get more links or whatever...

i have them coz i dont want others to have it. the only idea i had was...
either i can put it to no use... or i can park.. or i can redirect.

obviously, i will not park them at any parking service.

i can now either select to redirect them all or, just keep them all in my pocket and forget about it! :)

    thanks guys for advice! :)
