Hi and thank you for your time for reading my thread. I have a hosting package that allows me to host 10 domains and unlimited subdomains. I want have a site thats sells products and i want the other 9 remaining domains on my hosting package to be content related and even sell similar but different products. The only concern i is that im not sure if i will get penalized or removed from google's index if i was to link these sites to together. I check the A RECORDS ip address's and they are different. does this mean that im ok link exchanging to my own sites? And if it is ok do you know if hosting companies can just go and change the ip address or does it stay there until i change registars? Thank you so much in advance for reading and answering my questions. Have a great day.
You can link one to the other - No problem. But make sure NOT to link back. SO A -> B -> C -> D -> A.
if you planing to host sites based on different themes and want to link to them, there is not any issue.
This is always so funny to read..Google is not going to penalize you for linking to your own sites. It is certainly in your own perogative to let people know other sites you own. Google cares about content. Imagine if nobody hosted on GoDaddy servers was allowed to link to anyone on GoDaddy servers because they were apart of the same IP cluster in their shared hosting environment. I dont think google is correlated information that would allow them to make this determination (IP, URL, Whois etc) The real question is, does it help? That answer is probably "not much"...because odds are you are not an authoritative site, especially with all 10 sites. They have the algorithm that works for them and I assure you it wont penalize you, but it might not help.
The IP stays the same unless the host makes the change or you change your host/nameservers, and I'm pretty sure IPs dont affect your search engine stats
wow quick response, thanks you guys for your replies and opinions. I think i get the point now. DP Forums is great!!
Be Aware !! Don't make it Link Farm !!! Google can catch this easily !! IP is not useful for rankings ... but while talking about links it is useful for google !!
All fully interlinked is not a good idea. Its nothing to do with the same IP, as you will be on the same IP as a few other hundred sites, just interlinking that i wouldn't suggest.
Sorry about that illbeatz, i should have explained properly. Interlinked or interlinking websites (at least how i see it) is if you have say 20 websites, all yours and you interlink the whole lot so that say on the left side or in the footer you would see links to all of your other 20 websites, even if they are all related, like of similar niches, it may look bad to the SE's. I say may, as i dont know 100% if they do have a problem with this, but it may look like your trying to do something bad, even though it may seem perfectly innocent. I wouldn't recommend doing it, but of course lots of people do and will, the choice is yours though. That of course doesn't mean you cant link a couple of your own websites together, or something similar, just doing it on a bigger scale may not be healthy.
Then is this bad? I was going to put up around ten blog sites that are similar but different niche targeted, and point a few links from a niche related blog to a specific niches related page on my products site.
You can link from the main page to a few other ones. Then have those link to some ofthe other sites and have link back to main page. That way you do not have all the same links on each page. The url you want ranked best should be on most sites and not have that many links out to the other ones.
Internet is all about linking to related sites, right? So isn't it logical that you will not be penalized for linking between related sites, even if they are on the same IP? SEO is common sense... sometimes
