Does Google penalize for multiple Anchor Text Links to same URL? We have a footer text link with something like "Free Web Hosting by T35 Hosting" on all of our free hosting member pages. Both 'free web hosting' and 't35 hosting' link to t35.com. Is linking both doing more bad than good? The links are placed on all member pages, which is around 500,000 unique sites, and around 4,000,000 pages (site:t35.com on yahoo: Results 1 - 100 of about 3,133,026). What's the policy on having multiple anchor text links to the same url?
I think Google will not penalized your site. If they are linking to you then it is considered as backlinks.
It won't recieve a penalty, but if the links are going to the same URL they will have less SEO weight then if there was only one backlink by itself.
you're just simply doing your work by targetting multiple keywords for an specific site. you will not get penalized for this one.
My main keyword is 'free web hosting'. Am I hurting my rankings for that keyword by also linking 't35 hosting' to t35.com? Obviously 'free web hosting' is my main keyword... I just link 't35 hosting' because for some unknown reason I don't rank well for that on google (which is a whole separate issue).
