Multilingual meta data??????????

Hi. Sorry this might turn out to be a bit of an essay, but I need to give a back story in order to ask my question properly.

About a year ago, me and a friend decided to open an auction website for the expat community in Thaland...There's a buzzing trading community there.

We launched the site with some low level advertising...It never really did much due to it's lack of PR exposure, so we've decided to invest a bit of time and effort with SEO.

It's going quite well at the moment, with just our organic SEO content...Affiliates, blogspots etc to follow later.

The results are good when we search for our keywords on the google international site, but in order to get the results from the national searches, we've purcased the dot co dot T H suffix...Which is a nightmare if your a foreigner...Believe me.

Now the original idea for this was to use it as a referal page to link through to the main site...Here's the dilemma:

All the Thais who have used the english language site love it, all asking "where's the Thai version" (Ebay pulled out of Thailand a couple of yeas ago due to a huge Viacom lawsuit, but I believe they are coming back again in the new year), so, we've decided to use the dot co dot T H to play host to the Thai version when it's finished...In the meantime we would like it to:

a/ help promote the english language site via SEO
b/ Gain PR for the Thai version when it is released

So the question is this: Can you use Bilingual meta information on the same page? Does it work? Does it counteract the content held in 'the other language'?

If anyone has any experience of this at all, I wouldbe extemely gratefull for the opportunity to learn from it, although all suggestions are welcome.

    Thanks in advance

    Mark

You should just redirect 301 the TLDs to your main domain. Google doesn't use META keywords and ignores them.

I don't have experience with multilingual SEO, but the foundation should be the same. With this in mind...

    1) The content in your meta data (Title, Description, Keywords) must match the content of the page. So if you use two languages in the meta data (and you stay with in the character limits) you want to use two languages in the content of the page. If you only use the second language in the meta data but not in the content of the page, I fear you will have bad results, maybe lose ranking.

This was actually a good question, I hope to see more replies on this. Can you use 2 languages on one site, together?
