There was another algorithm update last night. Confirmed by a microsoft guy on another board. All my sites went down in the rankings somewhat.

I didn't notice much change, lost a few gained a few. Results looking more like Google's from what I've reviewed. Must be putting more emphasis on links.

Funny you say that. I thought MSN always put more on links than Google already.

with the old algo it was links and page title. For example one site i did i had backlinks for "download free ringtones" and the page title was "Free ringtones". I was #23 for "download free ringtones" and #6 for "free ringtones" which wasnt in any of my anchored links.

I don't think MSN has ever put more emphasis on links than Google, only that they didn't seem to apply an age filter to the links. On page optimization helps alot with MSN. I've got sites ranking #1 for very competitive search terms with 1/10 the backlinks of the sites below me.

How else would you explain the low quality spam pages that occasionally show up on serps with hardly any backlinks.

For the few terms I follow, I'm seeing more sites with secondary pages (indents) than before.

For example, for one phrase I was #2. Now I'm #3 but only because the #1 site has an additional page taking the #2 spot.

I'm seeing this pattern for a number of phrases.

Yeah I noticed this as well. I've got a few sites that rank in the top of MSN and often it is only my site that has the supplemental page. So in the top 5 I've got 2 spots, for example, sometimes position 1 and 2, but often the second page they show is not particularly relevant.

I didn't see much change. SERPs still make me feel sick when I look at them.

What was the latest report on MSN's market share? I wonder if these algo updates are helping it or killing it.
