I'm getting more traffic from some very specific single (long tail) keywords on google than some very general keywords I rank well for on MSN.

Plus the google keywords are more targeted and likely to convert.

Ask seems to be bringing more traffic than MSN on some sites...

The people who search MSN are the people who got it on the new computer in my opinion and never changed there home page. So you have to think what would these people be searching for if you want traffic from them.

MSN has proven to be useless to me so your predicament doesn't really surprise me.

It just doesn't have the pull of say Google.

the problem is with the keywords as seo related searches are generated by webmasters which obviously use google.
If you optimize for movies, games, etc, you ll see some trafic .

It might have good results but the volume is very small.

I ranked #1 for a very competitive term on MSN for awhile. MSN gave me next to nothing for traffic, i was very surprised.

I looked on overture keyword suggestion tool...that keyword is not even on the list so I'm assuming it gets less than 50 searches a month on google, let alone MSN. Make sure you use a keyword suggestion tool to see if the keyword gets traffic BEFORE you optimize that term. I wouldn't bother optimizing anything that gets less than 500 searches per month on overture (yahoo), but this will depend on the industry and other factors.
