Well what more is to be said than what I posted in the title ;] Just had a look at a couple of my sites in msn and the description was off dmoz rather than meta tags. Fortunately my dmoz descriptions are very similar to my site's, but can this be a problem for some people? I sure don't like it much.
So what about sites that are not in DMOZ? no descriptions,or is MSN now using DMOZ? Edit - Answered by own question there. They are definately not depending on DMOZ for their sites. Also, MSN is NOT using DMOZ descriptions for my site.
I find it kind of strange that MSN would use DMOZ descriptions... how many beers have you had tonight, iconrate?
I've had no beer, and I'll paste a screenshot in a moment... edit: and here it is. You'll note the first result (my site as I'm using an example) description, then below the screenshot of the cached page source code. second edit: Guess what the description at dmoz is?
Looks like you're right, I can't duplicate this with any others. Anyone have an idea what this could be?
I think the engineers at MSN lastnight had a party and one of them spilled some beer on the keyboard.. Other than that I cant imagine any other reason for them to be using your DMOZ description. I would hope and pray that MSN would never use Dmoz, you should too.
I wish DMOZ would even look at my built entirely from scratch website. Probably wont happen for atleast another year though. I guess the editor that rejected me knows more about carpet cleaning. SEO is only a hobby to me. My passion is flooring. Yet, ah getting off on a tangent, better stop now!!!! lol
