My site ranks #1 on MSN for my two most important search phrases but isn't even in the top 1000 in Google for the same phrases. Would anyone want to take a stab at why this might be? Also, has anyone else seen this kind of a difference in rank from SE to SE ?
After reading over this post http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=21692 I did a site: check on my site. MSN shows four times more links to my site than Google. I guess that'd be why. :-(
I find it harder to rank for Google than MSN too, a very big difference. But I'm not surprised. I guess you gotta work harder to rank in Google.
The site: command will indicate which pages of your site are indexed by the search engine. the link: command will show you the links to your site. If the results of the site: in MSN are 4 times that of Google, then you need to get those other pages of your site indexed - you could use Google Sitemaps to get this happening. On the other hand, with the link: command, Google only returns a fraction (generally around 10%) of the links it actually has, so an MSN or Yahoo link search is more accurate. A reason for you ranking so low in the Google may be due to the age of your site. Often known as the Sandbox effect Google seems to apply an age filter on sites. Yo umay find you are in the sandbox if your site is less than 12 months old.
thats funny as we have more problems getting ranked well in msn than google, I think it comes down to msn is more influenced by on page factors whereas off page factors are big hitting in google i.e links
I think that in MSN any old link is helpful in getting ranking, whereas Google seems to be a bit more fussy. Also, Google seems to delay the effect of new links whereas they affect the results in MSN much more quickly. So, without doing anything, your Google rankings may increase gradually over the next few months.
when i first started SEO on my site i ranked pretty well in MSN, I started with on-page changes then worked on off-page improvements, once I was done with the off-page improvements I started ranking well in google (not right away maybe 2-3 months); so i agree with what one person said above that google pays more attention to off-page improvements where MSN likes to see on-page improvements and yes MSN seems to pick up the changes faster...
I agree, MSN is very quick to index new changes, and to rank them well btw...this topic was almost 2 years old when you posted
I have a similar situation. I think its because Google puts more importance on the anchor text in your backlinks and msn focus more on content of your pages.
Google rank is more accurate than that of MSN in terms of Ranking. All over the world Google is the #1 SE. MSN is only just the number 3 in position...For Google as what trichnosis said is true Google focus more on quality links than onpage factor. They give more weight on links....Unlike MSN which has different algorithm than Google. MSN changes algorithm from time to time and IMO they focus on meta-tags. Click this link. Try to rank high on Google not MSN...
Google looks more at how many links you have and what the anchor text says for those links. Grant it there other factors (almost 200 ?) for ranking with google, right now your inbound links and anchor text play a big role in your sites ranking. As always though with SEO things change and the industry goes through phases of what works well and what no longer works as well. Right now for google work on your one way links and use your keywords/keyphrases in the anchor text. If your website is still fairly new then it could be in the "sandbox" but some good one way links will help you get out.
what i see here is to rank better on G and MSN, we can use XsitePro right ? what i understand is XsitePro can build pages very good, tailored so well with onpage opt ...someone can correct me here lol
