I've noticed this frequently with sites I have worked on. a site that tends to rank at number 1 or 2 in MSN and MSN UK always seems to struggle in Google and vice versa (there are of course exceptions with huge sites such as Wikepedia) Anyone seen similar?
Its not uncommon for the rankings between different search engines to vary. I have not noticed a systematic pattern like what you are describing.
My domain comes up on the number 1 slot in Microsoft and Yahoo but on google it shows up on the 350th slot in the USA. It's number 1 in the rest of the world.. And I can't figure out why!! This is just searching for the name of my domain..
It really doesn't really matter does it, they are so high anyway. It really only matters I think for the first 1-7 pages, the ones above that are all kings.
have you thought that this might happen because each engine uses different criteria? So a website focusing on one thing ranks good for one SE, and bad for another ?
I think every search engine used different ways to give the rank.It is up and down in different categories which they are made by the search engine.
I know MSN looks at on site stuff more than links (hence wiki ranks at number 1 for nearly everything), but there should still be no real reason why they are so different
