MSN search engine captures only 11% of the US market at the present moment. Microsoft is going to release its new Windows Vista which will be particularly emphasizing that search engine. My questions is whether we should bet on that and begin SEO processes for MSN? What would be your ideas? Is Microsoft capable to restore its monopoly in the Internet?
SEO process for MSN? You mean start spamming NOW? Seriously though, I think most everyone on this forum would make more money if MSN had a greater market share.
Seriously, I think that you are right about more of the users making more money if MSN had a greater marketshare... I wouldn't be surprised though if MSN does significantly increase market share over the coming months... maybe surpassing Yahoo is searches. I would think that overall SEO should also optimize you for MSN though, as well.
SEO for MSN is a LOT simpler than SEO for Yahoo or Google. It's just a case of following the absolute BASIC rules for for making your page legible by the bot. Then, fill it with appropriate content... At least, that's what works for me.
I have to say, I just checked out MSN's search, and it wasn't over-run with ads... in a way, I thought a bit more attractive of a search results page as well. Although, I had a tough time figuring out their results...
Isn't MSN the default search engine included with IE6/XP? So what would be different once Vista comes out?
thats why we all love msn, it's not about the results, its the looks . seriously though, MSN today is where Google was in 2003... which is why it would be nice for many of us if they did get a bigger market share--they basically have 3-years' less of filters, etc.
There is one thing that I know for a fact. Yahoo is gona get pushed down to number 3 and it IS going to loose its current position. Not just because of the Windows Vista but also because of Yahoo's poor search results. My personal experience (which might be wrong in some cases ) is that MSN's search results are far better than Yahoo! I don't see as many spam sites as I see in Yahoo. I am not trying to vent here or something but the fact is that I see a lot of "pure" spam websites in Yahoo's results while the legitimate websites are actually nowhere to be found or they are so far down the line that the chances of being found via Yahoo search are pretty low. Microsoft has the ability to pull this and they will do it. They are always lazy and slow and their products have hundreds of bugs and crap... but they do know how to jump up and establish a monopoly. We should see a very strong LIVE.COM integeration in Windows Vista... better than they had in XP. I am anxiously waiting for Windows Vista and for that day to come (which is not too far) when tables turn and Live.com becomes the second most-used search engine. Competition is always good and it always brings its own rewards for us. Yahoo has had it's time, let there be a new change, a new option for all to use. Z
I would love to see MSN get a bigger share. I just don't see it making such a big leap as some think.
My suggestion? Dont waste time now. Wait and see. Let it come first and then we can quick build the need
The problem with Microsoft: They have so many programs and projects to keep up with sometimes some fall through the cracks and another company gains. Google is a good example, and if google is not careful the same thing will happen to them.
The search engine marketshare may not change significantly - but it will shuffle about a bit. Yahoo will gain from its relations with china Google will gain with doing search results for MySpace (with yahoo losing that)... and also with other fox related stuff MSN will gain with Live.com Notice the pattern? Yeah, they all gain in volume but the market share itself will not shift dramatically - however, MSN are in a strong position with Live.com winning more webmaster support while Google.com lose the trust and loyalty of the people who made it the best search engine (but due to branding will still exist as the market leader). Yahoo have also stepped up and will be gaining as China become more internet focussed - which should see them hold off the challenge from MSN and not lose any share to Google.com Overall, search itself is gaining in volume as internet takeup expands worldwide and millions more webpages are added almost daily. Surch.com may start to make an appearance next year as the best of the 'new' search engines or alternative search engines. Snap.com is another contender for 'new' or alternative search engines. However, it will be quite some time before any search engine challenges the top 3 in all realistic scenarios, unless there are mergers etc that complement each other.
