(i previously posted this in microsoft section but i relized now its best suited for the seo catagory) Ok here is my problem.. One of my sites is hosted on a uk webserver with uk ip and msn is being hard on localization now putting sites with uk servers high in live search uk results but lower in usa search and vice versa.. Im number one in uk but like 10 in usa search results.. I want to be number one in both.. Does msn recognize these meta tags? i added them today in hopes itll fix the problem.. <META NAME="Language" CONTENT="en-us"> <meta name="Distributor" content="Global"> <META NAME="Distribution" CONTENT="Global"> Not sure whats right Distributor or Distribution ive seen both so i dont guess its any harm in trying both i just hope msn recognizes them and it helps.. Any suggestions or feed back is greatly apreciated thanks
They probably won't have much of an effect. You should try to get more backlinks from US websites, use the anchor text your ranking for well on google.co.uk mostly, remember you do want a mixture of backlink anchor texts, I'm sure you can think of a few other keywords\key phrases you'd like to rank for
Good question, and to be honest, I really don't know. However, I do agree with ssandecki that you should try to get more US-based links pointing to your pages.
Thanks for replying ssandecki .. yea i thought about that too.. ive been working on getitng more us sites.. i was looking in msn webmaster tools and my msn page rank for that one is green all the way across.. But many back links the high pr ones prob are from uk lol uk canada and msnnine the australia version of msn im number one but good old usa im like 10th now i still have another site thats in 2nd place its newer with even less back links.. but on a usa server.. Another intresting things i noticed in msn webmaster tools help page was it said sites are placed according to location host ip , domain extention ect..and it read as follows how the heck would i alter it other then change webhosts btw thats not a going to work for me.. But thats all it said and when i followed the links it wasnt anything relevent to the topic.. So im assuming they mean alter the ip and domain extension by changing webhosts and getting a new domain name .. lol hell i might as well build a new site if im going to do all that.. cause its no way to change your area in webmaster tools ect and not a thing more in help about it.. I guess ill try to add more links to usa sites.. i mean get more back links from usa sites Im almost afraid to do to much site wise like optomize for other phrases cause already im hitting good for 5 key phrases on the other servers just have droped some in the usa server.. and im worried that if i change to much ill drop from them.. So ill hope those meta tags help some and continue with the back links for now.. Any more input would be helpfull esp on the proper use of those meta tags..
I'm running into the exact same problem. I'm absolutely KILLING for geo-specific results with my city (Perth) and or country (australia) on the end of specific terms, but this is only in the USA. Results here in Oz? 197th. In the US? 1st, sometimes 2nd, but only as low as 7th. So I find that the bloody thing says that you CAN alter how it figures out where you are (as it currently does it by IP and I'm hosted out of Kansas), but it never actually says HOW!!! Frustrated? Yeah, especially since this is the 4th forum that I've found someone with a similar problem and the 4th time that it's been the LAST post... with no answers. *whimpers* Please help somebody?
i'm sorry but my question is a bit off topic is there anybody who cares msn as search engine? i think msn is full of spam
