MSN/Live, what is the best way to SEO for it...

So, I have been working on my SEO skills of late and noticed, Live doesn't seem to work the same way Google and Yahoo do. I have keywords in the top 10 on both Yahoo and Google that don't rank at all on Live. So there is something I clearly need to add to my skill set to get things to rank in Live.

I do index in Live/MSN but I don't rank for the same keywords.

Also is there a way to focus my keywords to the Local searches?

To be honest we don't even bother with MSN/Live anymore.... if our SEO work targeting G and YaH manage to grab some Live rankings.. Great.. if not? Who cares....

We not only do SEO but manage sites as far as ongoing analytics and traffic patterns .. when it somes to money terms... Live simply doesn't send enough traffic to worry about really...

In short... don't spend more than 5% of your time on it... it's unlikely it would ever bring in more than that for related high ranking terms....

Live/MSN really focuses on keywords in the domain, and tons of links with the anchor text. At least thats my take on it.

Certainly true, I get more traffic from second or third page rankings for my major keywords on Google then I do for #1 ranking on msn..

I think it's much easier to get ranked well in MSN than google.

Hmmm ok, well I guess I should give anchor text more time to resistor at MSN. Granted we do generally get more traffic from Ask then MSN.

The main reason I am asking is some clients want to haver the same results in all the search engines. I was hoping maybe I missed something very basic in getting better listings in MSN.

In my opinion, MSN weights on-page heaviest of any of the major search engines. It also seems to like links from just about anywhere.

If what you're selling is B2B focused, however, I wouldn't worry too much about it. MSN's traffic is almost entirely consumer.

Really I only have 2 sites that care one bit about MSN, one mainly sells services to municipalities, the other sells powerwashing services to property owners.

Domain name, anchor text, nicely optimized pages, don't even really bother with MSN, just try to rank highly in the other search engines and those rankings will come. Don't build the links too quickly and make things seem nice and your link dev. as well as your rankings in the other SEs will go through easily. Someone had an excellent code to put into their site for MSN rankings, check out the MSN forums on here and you'll find amazing advice.

Ok thanks for the tips, I generally don't have problems ranking in Google and Yahoo.

I miss MSN results powered by Google made my life easier.

Google's power of the SERPs sure did help this stuff out. Everyone misses the Goog running MSN's search. They also ran Yahoo!'s and most other sites' engines for long search
