MSN is freaky (same page ranked twice)

I have a site where the homepage bounces between the first and second page, seemingly a few times a week.

I did my keyword check this morning, and I had dropped one space but was still on the front page. Then I went back and looked at my logs and saw someone referred from the second page. I ran the search myself and suprisingly enough the SAME PAGE is ranked both at number 8 on the first page (cache date 10/29/05) and on the second page at number 12 (cache date 10/30/05]).

So right now I am listed for the same page twice, just with different cache dates.

    Is this a common occurence?

I imagine it is going to finish re-ranking me and drop me back to the second page with a single listing. I saved both caches though so I can check them and figure out why one is better than the other. :)

You mean the same exact .html page? Or just same domain name but different .html extension name?

Same exact page. Seems to happen when they are updating the cache.

I see today that there is a page ranked both at number 1 and 39 for a site I am working with.

the crazy thing is, we saw this happen on Google a week or two ago... the same exact site was ranked twice for a keyword phrase on most of the data centers... do you think this was just been a fluke during the updates or something?

I've noticed this with Google and Yahoo as well. I'm not sure what to think.

Well, if that really happens, a bonus for the web owner of that fortunate page then, double the traffic :)

If your keywords are not high competiton, you won't see alot of traffic. Google will give more traffic but I have never seen more that 10-1 ratio for Google to MSN.
