Well, it was a great ride.... I was sitting at the #1 spot for my target keyword for about a month. Suddenly today MSN just decided to do something really wierd. First they dropped me from #1 to #54 (ironically the exact same position I'm at in Google today). But here's what has me worried..... They also dropped my title and META text. So my listing when you finally get to it on page 5! looks like this.. mydomain.com mydomain.com Where as it used to look like this just yesterday... MyCoolDomain.com - All The Keywords I had In my title tag With nice META tag description below mydomain.com What on earth could possibly cause this? Did the spider visit the site while it was down or something? Or is MSN just screwy.
I feel your pain. I too dropped into oblivion on MSN this morning. In my case many of my pages just disappeared overnight. They don't appear in the index at all when doing a domain search. Kinda harsh, I think.
GeorgeB., have your pages dropped or not? Well, I don't like to disappoint you guys but if your pages have dropped, don't expect a few days for them to back. Mine is not there after 3-4 weeks. .
Nah I did "site:mydomain.com" search and got 272 pages. and they all have their TITLE tag data except the home page!! Grr..
It really is strange. 3 different sites of mine all lost hundreds of indexed pages on MSN. In one sad case the command "site:mydomain.com" now returns only the home page. What a bitch.
Yesterday I contacted MSN and received a very polite reply as follow: If anybody thinks they may get a better answer this is the address for contacting MSN search: http://support.msn.com/eform.aspx?p...=support_home_options_form_byemail&ct=eformts .
My sites have been fluctuating on MSN this week. They now appear to have settle down to their previous rankings. At least I hope.
I'm really hoping this was just a case of the site being offline when MSNbot visited and it'll get relisted on the next visit. I wasn't getting "OMG quit your day job traffic" from that listing but it was a nice steady flow of new visitors. URLTrends.com shows my backlinks are still looking good so that MUST be it. Incoming Google Links: 412 Incoming Yahoo Links: 12,600 Incoming MSN Links: 1,988 LOL, notice the crazy amount of Yahoo backlinks yet I rank nowhere in Yahoo for my keyword term.... sigh..... sometimes I just wanna say the hell with SEO. It's all a crap shoot.
w00t! It's back at #1 today. Must have been a glitch or like suggested earlier, the spider visited while the site was down.
most definitely a glitch. Thank goodness it was temporary. the same thing happend to one of my sites. Went MIA for 3 days and then shot back to its original rankings. soiled quite a few pants during this time.
msn did same thing to me, my mysql went down, now my listing in msn went from 3rd to page five and my listing looks like. WordPress › Error Error establishing a database connection This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at localhost remember msn is quicker then the others so will also pick up and punish for errors quicker then others.
msn just seems to drop pages at random, it should come back within 10-14 days as long as nothing has changed
